ripped off for booking a room

I made a reservation in response to an email solicitation from the Sonesta Travel Pass Membership Club. My plans changed and I called to cancel the reservation. The clerk informed me that they would be glad to cancel the reservation, but the charges are NONREFUNDABLE, and my card has already been charged . The stay was not to begin for another 3 days from now.

Great location
Reviewed 6 september, 2020
We stayed here on the dorm move-in weekend for UT. The hotel is in a great area in the Arboretum/Domain which is safe and has all the shopping/restaurants you need and it's only 15 minutes from the campus on the Mopac tollway. We had a King bed with the sofa bed. The sofa bed is a joke. Our daughter slept on this and had a terrible night's sleep as the mattress is super thin. She actually couldn't wait to sleep in her dorm bed the next night. Our bed was good. The bathroom doesn't have a door on the sink area so if someone uses that the light pours into your room. There's only a door on the toilet/tub area so really poor design. Good shower pressure. AC was good in our room but hardly coming out in the room with the sofa bed. The fridge didn't keep any of our items cold and was broken. The couch and chairs in the room are really dated and have a scratchy material on them so we put the extra sheets on them to sit on them. The breakfast is only a few items to go but we didn't mind. There's no housekeeping so you need to ask for new towels.

Roomy and Quiet
Reviewed 25 march, 2020
This is one of the rare hotels that is not right beside a busy freeway -- it's so very quiet. We had a top-floor 2-bedroom suite facing the courtyard -- the view was nice and the room is very spacious (even for 4 adults). The location is also great -- it's within walking distance to Sam's and Costco, and very close to HEB, 7/11, etc. The lady who checked us in was very friendly and helpful. Check out was easy and fast. The only downside was breakfast -- since no continental breakfast can be served (Corona), instead we just got goodie bags with no-so-good breakfast items.

One of the best, most functional hotels I've stayed in -- great family experience
Reviewed 2 march, 2020
I travel a ton and have stayed in all types of hotels across the IHG and Hilton portfolios. There's a huge spectrum of designs and experiences for hotels and I think each has its merits, but I don't think any is as purposeful and well designed as this Staybridge. It's not a fancy-shmancy place, but when I'm traveling with family and just want to relax, I'll take this over a Ritz any day. We stayed for the weekend for a family event: us and our 2 young kids, plus another 11 people across 4 other rooms. Check-in was easy enough, even though we showed up a couple hours early with a very cranky infant. Shantelle helped us get situated in another room that was ready before ours, which was a huge help. She was great throughout our entire stay. Simon Barnes was also very helpful before our stay with making sure we had the rooms that we needed and taking care of a helpful Spire upgrade. The suite design at Staybridge, and especially the use of 2-bedroom suites, is perfect. We were able to put our young kids in one bedroom (crib and bed), us sleep in another, and still have a living room available for socializing with family. Very functional, very nice. This location is perfect: an easy drive to 183 or Mopac, and within a mile of tons of great shopping and restaurants. Very convenient. The breakfast is good. Again, not fancy -- it's your basic cold stuff, plus some roasted potatoes, scrambled eggs, yogurts, cereals, etc. -- but is everything you really need. Again, when you're 15 people, just having a place to chill out in the morning and start your day is good. And the service from Marcos was on par with any that I've experienced at higher end properties: he was on point asking us if we needed things, helping out where he could, etc. Just a very overall welcoming vibe from him. Everything was nicely set up for us to be able to enjoy our time there. Lots of space in the breakfast area for us to congregate, and it made a nice area for socializing later at night with a few beers. We were probably a little loud / annoying at times but I assume nobody complained about us so the staff never gave us a hard time. The back patio area, BBQ area, and fire pit are also great. We had an awesome time around the fire pit for a couple hours. The pool is nicely heated -- sufficiently warm that we'd actually have used it if we'd thought to bring swimsuits. This was just a stellar experience all around, a phenomenal value, and really made everyone feel at home for our few days there. We look forward to visiting again.
