Could do better

Reviewed 13 august, 2021

Despite the wonderful location on beautiful Sylt, this hotel disappointed. My husband and I stayed for 6 nights in July 2021, at a time when pandemic-related restrictions explained some our only so-so experience but not all. To begin with, although a quiet room away from the road was specifically requested, we were initially shown to a room with a view over a parking lot and road. After complaining, the front desk managed to get us a room on the other side of the hotel (facing the pool area), but it would have been so much nicer to have started with a room that met our requirements. It should be mentioned that although this is a modern hotel, there is no ventilation or air cooling in the rooms; therefore, sleeping with the windows open is essential as the room are otherwise stuffy. Secondly, the hotel offers no access to the sea due to the dunes which are off-limits, and no views of the sea from the public areas. Although our room had a partial (side) view of the sea, in order to enjoy views of the beach we had to leave the hotel property and walk along the public promenade (5-min walk). This is due to the rather strange architecture of the resort, which is big and boxy and not very open to the outdoors. The terraces of the restaurant and bar area are closed off and can only be accessed through the restaurant. And the fact that the only access to the pool area is via the spa also made us feel hemmed in. Food-wise the restaurant was of okay quality, but the fact of eating at a buffet-style restaurant for both breakfast and dinner, with no other option for a fancier meal in the evening, was limiting. Finally, the hotel made us pick a fixed seating time for breakfast in advance and stick with it due to Covid rules, which really felt like being on a schedule -- not cool while on holiday. It felt like this was for their convenience rather than the guests. On the positive side, the restaurant staff at A-Rosa Sylt were very friendly and went out of their way to accommodate the guests.

Didn’t feel quite 5*

Reviewed 16 november, 2019

Just spent 2 nights at the A-Rosa for a company outing. The hotel is ok, but given that it is rated 5 Star, I wasn’t too impressed. The rooms are quite standard, nothing special, and no coffee/ tea making facilities. Especially with regards to the bedding I’d expect more from such a pricey hotel. The pillows were lumpy and shapeless, and the duvet tiny and thin, it rather felt like a kid’s duvet. It was ok, but nothing more. Spa is nice, but the “spa menu” is very expensive ( a manicure with varnish will set you back 85 Euros!!). Every little bit costs quite a lot. Bicycles also at an extra charge ( I am used to this being complimentary for hotel guests). Very good breakfast though, and the staff was very friendly.

Good facilities medium service high pricing

We have booked the Arosa Hotel in List from the 11th of ‚‘August until the 17th of August. The location is beautiful and the rooms are nice but overheated. You can only survive with open windows. SPA and Swimmingpool great. Breakfast very good dinner buffet expensive ( 45 Euros per head ) and not in a decent Standart

Beautiful hotel; great location; lovely staff; good food. Gorgeous pool.

We loved our two night stay at this hotel. Our room was beautiful and comfortable. We had a town view and it was pleasant. Of course the ocean view rooms must be even nicer but are more expensive. The food was good. The pool was gorgeous and warm. What I also liked was able to walk on the ocean promenade and the many shops. The staff were wonderful. The front desk lady who lives also in South Africa and the young lady who works with her from Hamburg went out of their way to help us when we had difficulty closing a window! They were so patient with us. The bus that goes around the island stops nearby and was great and easy to use. Loved our stay and highly recommend the hotel.
