More about the hotel
Location was good
If I could rate this hotel as ‘good’ I would but can’t give it ‘very good’ so it’s graded as average. It was good due to the location next to a subway station and relative proximity to some landmarks. It wasn’t great because: I was woken on my first night at 02.30 due to building work- this went on until 04.30: I called reception to ask what they thought they were playing at and the receptionist didn’t speak English! I had a tour early that day which left at 06.50 and was surprised to see a person asleep in the reception area! I had my tour and complained about the disruption the night before (I was on floor two) and asked to be moved- they granted this but were keen to point out it had nothing to do with them, when a guest at your hotel is woken at 02.30 due to construction work it has a lot to do with you! They moved me to another floor and helped me move but there was a lot of smoking going on in certain rooms on this floor which filtered into my room which I was not happy about especially as it’s supposed to be a non- smoking establishment! Breakfast was very repetitive with the same dishes provided each day, there were a lot of staff in the restaurant but little monitoring of food stations went on with several feral children running around with no discipline. Food was poor. Check in and checkout was smooth. The gym was really useful but was frustrating when I went to use the equipment one night and there was a member of staff stripped down to his vest working out! Cleaning staff were very good and rooms were clean. I wouldn’t stay here again as it as expensive for what it was.
Close to Wangfujing eating area and Tianamen Square
Walking distance to ATM, good restaurants and felt safe walking at night. Room smelt of smoke when you first opened it but fine once in the room, lovely and clean, had everything you need. Breakfast was a great selection with egg station, regular Western food and lots of local things to try. We would definitely stay here again.
great location
this hotel is in a great location for tourists and while it is starting to look a little tired, especially the pool, the staff were helpful and friendly and the rooms were a good size, comfortable and clean.
Find Something Better
Jianguo garden Hotel has a very impressive lobby but don't be fooled. We stayed in room 4035 which overlooks the air conditioning units. The room was very dated especially the toilet. The carpets were dirty and the room smelled of stale cigarette smoke. You do have tea and coffee provided in the room and a digital safe. The air con was noisy and didn't seem to work. We had a flush problem with the toilet which took two complaints and 24 hours to fix. Although the breakfast was very good with a extensive selection and the WiFi strong with no drop outs I would much rather have stayed somewhere nicer.
Awful hotel
We visited this hotel during a 14 day splendours of China tour with Virgin holidays. On entering the hotel we were very impressed with the lobby area but from there it got much worse. We were given keys to rooms on level 5. The carpets were filthy and there was a strong smell of cigarette smoke. On entering the rooms we were shocked at the state of them. They smelt of smoking and had chipped paint everywhere and dirty marks on the walls, with very dirty and stained carpets, the bathrooms were in desperate need of refurbishment. There was black mould around the baths and the floor tiles were cracked, one of the rooms had bare wires showing in the bedroom. Another of the bedrooms smelt of urine. These rooms were totally unacceptable for a 4star hotel. We refused these rooms but all the rooms offered to us on levels 5,6 and 7 were the same and it wasn’t until we were offered rooms on the executive floor (10) and 11 that we felt comfortable sleeping in them. This hotel’s bedrooms need complete refurbishment before anyone is expected to sleep in them. The hotel was not interested in our complaints and should not be used by tour companies until they comply.
