Beneath the medieval castle Bélesta, Languedoc Rousillon, the cooperative cellar was converted into a hotel and restaurant in a loft style. The architectural unit with the museum castle was respected. Each suite or room is designed in an original way: lights, colors and materials are freed from the austere appearance of the tank and reflect a contemporary Mediterranean style. Each room has a private patio overlooking the gardens leading down to the natural pool. An invitation to swim among water lilies and dragonflies, or simply enjoy the spa nestled among olive trees and magnolias.

Did the job.

We were there for two nights and overall we enjoyed our stay. The room was comfortable and offered everything we needed and was, thankfully, at the rear of the hotel with a fine view over the valley, as opposed to the front of the hotel where the rooms fronted the road. Breakfast was buffet style with plenty of choice and we did have our evening meal there on both nights (reviewed separately). We were though a little disappointed in that only one of 3 restaurants was open and that the terrace bar was not open but given we were there ‘off season’ we assumed this was the reason for that. We each had a spa treatment - good for me though only OK for my wife though she did enjoy a dip in the outside ‘ natural pool. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Mixed experience

Five day stay, at which restaurant staff was friendly and food of primarily local produce was good and of high quality. Reception seemed indifferent and not very helpful, for instance when room service was asked for (as it appears on the homepage), but apparently wasn’t an option. We’ve had much better service in France in similar pricerange, La Bricoterie (Epernay) for example.

Disappointed

We stayed at the hotel Riberach in August. Overall the place is nice andclean. However I found the price of our stay very expansive for what it was. We (2) stayed 2 nights with no dinner at the gastro restaurant and no breakfast and we paid 583€. There was a barbecue organised one night, the food was not exceptional and very limited for the number of persons. Another night we paid 40€ for a picnic basket including a bottle of wine (From the domain) but again the food was very limited and no desert. I raised this at the reception when we left. The swimming pool is nice however you can hear the car from the road which is not what you could expect when coming to a place like that.

elegant hotel + 7-star service = great weekend

We had been to Riberach's 1* restaurant the winter before and it was marvellous, so we were curious to stay overnight, and had the chance to stay overnight on the way back to Barcelona during Easter week. The hotel, renovated from a long-closed wine cooperative, is elegant, with the rarefied air of an old place, with just a few other guests, so that you can enjoy it to yourself. The wine tour and tasting are both well-recommended; in our case, as we don't much French, one of the winemakers himself gave us part of the tour! Dinner was again marvelous, an all-evening affair, and just before that, we had managed to sneak off to the hotel spa; it could be a bit better maintained perhaps, but is fun nonetheless. We decided we would like to try again in the summer, when you can also use their natural pool. And of course, we are appreciative that the hotel accepts good dogs. But what made our experience 7* was my mistake at the end of the trip: I drove home and realised only then that I had left my documents (passport etc) in our hotel room's safe! And I needed them for the following week. The hotel contacted me, and found not one, but two solutions: in the end a relative of the owners, who also happens to live in BCN, brought it down with her personally! Amazing! So yes, Riberach is a very special place for us, and we will be pleased to return when we can. Thanks to Elise, Dalila, and everyone who helped us. Saludos!
