My husband and I had two days to spend in Köln and choose this hotel simply because of its awesomeness and history. We arrived later in the evening and were immediately checked in including all hotel aspects including Covid restrictions. We booked a suite and it was nice, everything you could ever want. It’s massive size, huge windows and high ceilings created a true castle feeling of being very secure. The sound of the fountain through the open window relaxed every bone in our bodies. Food experiences at the hotel were top class. Late dinner in lobby bar was exceptional. The breakfast was well organized and very delicious. The hotels Italian restaurant was a highlight. So delicious and really worth booking a table even if you are not a hotel guest. There is no doubt about it, the next time we find ourselves in this area of Germany, we will stay here. There cannot possibly be a more comfortable place.
Really bad service (Restaurant J. Willem / "Castle Kitchen")

Won't be back any time soon! Nice location (chateau), Spa & Wellness area is small but ok, but: The service during dinner at the "castle kitchen" (Restaurant Jan Wellem) was horrific. We were leaving the Spa quite early (even though we would have liked to stay for a little while) because the reception had booked our "4-course-menu" for 6.30 p.m. The first two courses (salad and soup which were quite good) had been changed to "buffet" (presumably to reduce staff costs) but which is still fine. For a quite long time nobody was taking away the dishes (~20 min) which we had put aside to eat the soup. After taking away the dishes we were asked whether we would like to continue with the main course right away which we affirmed. The next 40 minutes we were asked again and again (3 times in total) whether we are ready for the main course - but no food arrived. When our fish arrived at the table it was kind of cold. After taking away the dishes from the main course we were asked again whether we would like to start right away with the desert which we - again - affirmed. Again the staff asked us two times more whether we would like to have the desert. After 60 minutes the desert arrived (still, the ordered coffee to accompany the desert never showed up, neither on the table nor gladly at the bill). One could see that also other guests were looking confused about the service, because they were receiving the wrong menu. There wasn't much staff (maybe three waiters/waitresses for 30 guests) and only one of them which was bringing the food from the kitchen was acting professionell. When we checked out at the next morning at the reception, our decent hint "whether the kitchen was a little bit busy last night" was commented slightly snobbish and proud that all three restaurants were fully booked... I have to admit that I never experienced such bad service in a restaurant, not even in "normal" restaurants. All in all for us the trip was quite disappointing.

This is an amazing hotel. A fine emblem of Rhine Valley hospitality, combining warmth and efficiency with ease. Our room was spacious, the food we were served was good, and the service was really thoughtful. A true 5-star experience.
Luxurious and relaxing experience!

We did stay for 3 nights on St. Valentine's Day! We arrived to the hotel by car and despite it was late in the evening check-in was smooth and quick. We stayed at Grand Deluxe room - it was quite big room with high ceilings well-maintained, with comfortable king bed and spotlessly clean. We did have view towards city with Cologne cathedral visible at the far back :) Bathroom was quite big in size with all modern amenities you would expect from 5-star hotel. Wi-Fi both in the room and at hotel grounds was of good quality, Being LHW members we received welcome message from the hotel manager along with complimentary bottle of red wine. We did have breakfast on all 3 days and it was perfect - excellent food selection including cooked to order hot dishes included in the price, variety of cold (including several freshly squeezed juices) and hot drinks, vast fruit selection including fresh strawberries (on my request they also prepared whipped cream) and other berries. All this coupled with excellent service and classic ambiance of the area made the breakfast simply exceptional. Hotel interiors were very clean and well-kept, they do have several spacious lounge areas as well as few restaurants on-site (which we unfortunately did not have opportunity to try), bar is also very atmospheric, and drinks are of very good quality. Spa/recreation area on-site is also very nice with 12m indoor pool, sauna/steam bath etc. They are also complimentary offering different herbal teas and infusions by Ronnefeldt in spa area - very nice addition. During summertime they also have nice lounges outside for sunbathing right near the pool area. Hotel is in small town, honestly without car it is not very easily accessible, however with car is only 20 min from Cologne and 30 min from Bonn - so quite convenient location. One point of criticism - hotel as any good 5-star hotel has valet parking - saying this it is in fact the only option available to park the car, being in quite secluded area and having huge garage I don't believe it is appropriate for the hotel of such caliber to charge additionally for parking - which they do and the charge is quite substantial (28 Euro per day). Other than this it was really excellent and very relaxing stay - we can highly recommend the hotel to all those seeking peaceful and luxurious holiday in classic setting.
Majestic & beautiful palace ‘Schloss’ shame about the poor service
Reviewed 17 September, 2020
Came expecting so much, drove in and saw this beautiful and majestic Schloss so impressive until you walk in, everything goes down hill, the service is shabby inattentive snobbish (with no reason at all), the Italian restaurant with a nice outside terrace overlong a car park is medicate at best, the food is ok the service is so so slow and inattentive though the waiters are nice just out of their depth. Worth a drive to see the Schloss but don’t bother with anything else, needs a lot of love, care and attention.
