Amazing stay!!

Me and my boyfriend stayed at the Bloc hotel this past weekend and it was a great stay! The staff were super friendly, shoutout to David one of the room service staff who carried my case down the stairs for me as the lift wasnt working! Thank you! We stayed in a vista plus room, it had everything we needed and we had plenty of room. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows firm but soft. The shower was really nice and didn't take long to get warm. The hotel is in a great location to the center of the city too. We walked most days to and from the city which only took around 15 minutes each way. Would recommend if you're going to a concert which was the reason for out stay or just for a weekend away.

Bloc Birmingham - cheap wrapped up as chic - shame there's no minus rating available

What can I say? it was £140 for the tiniest bedroom, no window and a shower which inexplicably shares space with the toilet. So if plodding through a wet slippery floor after a shower is your thing -it's for you. The bed was OK buy hey not for two.. Clambering over each other and not in a good way...It was clean, functional but really? how they have spun a bedroom less than the size of a university hall room to a £140 "pod"? No room for a suit case. The £5 upgrade promised was unavailable and £1.50 for a miserable coffee...Go to the Travel Lodge at least they give you some shortbread biscuits,

Quirky modern pod-style hotel in Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham
Reviewed 2 march, 2023
I stayed at this hotel with a number of my work colleagues as it was convenient for a team meeting in the city. I understand there are only two of these hotels in the UK (the other is at Gatwick Airport) and they are modern and trendy. The hotel is located in the Jewellery Quarter which is about a mile (15 minutes walk) from New Street Station. A lot of the room facilities are operated via your mobile phone (including door entry, lights, air-conditioning, television, as well as checking in and out of the hotel) - the phone app is loaded from an email sent to you from the hotel prior to check-in. Many of the facilities can still be operated manually though, as there is a light and air-con panel in the room, and TV remote. I am sure the friendly staff will be able to assist if you cannot get the phone app to work etc. The room was compact but modern-looking. There was a large comfortable bed and good pillows...the only downside with the bed is that you had to crawl across it to pull down the window blinds. There is no 'furniture' in the room, it is very minimalist, but for a solo traveller staying one night it was absolutely fine. The only niggle is the lack of a kettle in the room. The bathroom is compact and featured a toilet, sink and drench shower all in one 'wet room' which was generally fine until you have showered, after which everything was wet and more challenging to use when clothed. The bathroom featured full-length mirrored walls which was a little odd. The hotel doesn't provide breakfast - I gather they partner with a venue nearby that offers food, but we chose to eat in one of the local eateries. It did mean the room cost was low and was good value so close to the city centre. In my opinion the room is best suited to short stays and solo travellers...I imagine it could be a little cosy if spending time in the room with double occupancy, especially with the small bathroom and combined toilet. I liked the fact you checked in and out by just pressing a button on your phone and there was no key to lose. It was a little challenging finding the light switch in the dark when I woke up as I couldn't find the light panel or my mobile phone. The concept works well but in practical terms it was a bit fiddly. It was, however, fine for my basic needs but I do prefer the more traditional hotel options with more space and coffee-making facilities in the room (I gather there was a complimentary coffee machine near reception). I wasn't a fan of the all-in-one wet-room but for one night's stay it did the trick.

Ultra modern hotel in a good location.

Good quality hotel in a good location, complete with ultra-modern functionality. Lift/stairs access and room key are all performed on a phone via a link sent upon checking in at reception. Room lights and aircon also controlled in the same way. Room quite small compared to offerings from Premier Inn or Travelodge, but perfectly adequate, complete with wet room bathroom and good quality rainfall shower. Ironing room located downstairs is convenient enough with direct access from lift. Good city views from rooms with windows. Older guests may be put off with phone-based functions, however. Receptionist Sophie was extremely helpful and friendly and is a credit to the hotel and hospitality industry.

Excellent Pod Style Hotel
Reviewed 13 january, 2023
I enjoyed my stay. This hotel was great for me as a woman on my own travelling to Birmingham for 1 night for work. Although the room is very small it is well designed. The bed was comfy, the shower was powerful and all immaculately clean. Plenty of towels. If you want a larger room to lounge around in for several days then this might not suit you, but for a 'pod' style room on your own it's spot on. The only thing I wasn't keen on was that I was told on arrival I would have to use the app on my phone to do everything including calling the lift, entering the building, entering my room, switching on the lights, the TV etc. In fact this wasn't the case, there was a button for the lift, a remote for the TV, switches for the lights in the room, so don't worry if you're older or not tech savvy. The only thing you actually need your phone for is to go into your room. And it is helpful to check out on the app, which takes just one tap. I had a really nice breakfast in a bag which had a banana, yoghurt, croissant and fruit drink. The helpful man on reception also remembered to let me know about the complementary coffee and showed me the machine. Altogether a very good stay, thank you.
