Is it viable?

Actually a 2.5, this reasonably large establishment in a fairly quiet part of the country seemed almost deserted, even in mid-July. Perhaps that accounted for lunch service being cancelled. Perhaps an upgrade might have been offered in these circumstances? No. We remained in the smallest room of our 3-week trip through France. A lot of effort has gone in to creating a pitch&putt, but is it ever played? I’m a regular golfer and it seemed over-priced too especially for astroturf greens. Dinner was satisfactory, though, nicely created.

A Superb Restaurant

This review is about the restaurant only, not the hotel that we didn't try. We were staying in the area for a few days and having read a few good reviews about l'Orangerie decided to give it a try. Most of the restaurants in the area were still in hibernation mode and only opened at the weekend. There were only a few tables occupied on the terrace overlooking a beautiful expand of lawn and trees. The diners were all residents to the hotel. Food and service were excellent. Menu was mainly based on local products, cooked with precision and refinement without falling into the trap of average modern cuisine. The owners deserve to be better known and one can only hope that summer will bring enough business for them to keep this little gem running for years to come
Gem in the Creuse

After 10 years visiting the area and hearing above the L'Orangerie we eventually went there for lunch yesterday with friends and had a WONDERFUL experience. The hotel and grounds are lovely, but the meal exceeded our expectation. A good menu and beautifully presented food with good service. As you may suspect it is not a cheap experience, but your get value for money and a special place. We will be back again more regularly than before!

The Orangerie is a restful oasis of calm in the Creuse. It's "off the beaten track" but the hotel is well appointed, with comfortable rooms and attractive grounds. The swimming pool is heated. Breakfast is rather expensive for a fairly standard buffet, and the evening meals are also quite pricey with not a lot of choice, but generally very well cooked and presented.
