A typical resort hotel, 45 minutes from town

A new and modern hotel. Rooms are spacious, service is good and food is good. I was there for a conference and was happy with that. I doubt, however, that I would stay there for private reasons. The hotel is a bit charmless and more importantly, it is quite some distance from the city centre - some 45 minutes on foot or a 7-8 euro taxi ride each way. It is close to the main tourist attraction in Braga though, a church/monastery up on the hill (I went there four times). There is a pool area, but to my surprise, my room rate didn't include access to it.

Good reception service. Good gym facilities. Room had not been done properly with missing products . Breakfast in noisy area with basic quality food. Fruits such as watermelon and orange with no taste. It does not deserve a 5* rating at all.
Braga Melia service

Worst service I’ve ever experienced, for country and city looking to grow its tourism they have much to learn about servicing customers. If they just improved 5% that’s a additional 5% of revenue… basic maths…rather than having Portuguese managers they need to recruit international experienced manager who understand the importance of the customer service and maximising revenue during peak times.
Hotel Melia Braga

I spent two nights at the Hotel Melia Braga. The staff at the reception is very friendly and courteous. The room was modern and in the middle of the room was a bathtub. A shower was also available. The room was flooded with light, the facade consisted of a lot of glass. I will come here again.

My husband and I flew from Ireland to Portugal for business, and we were extremely stressed because of the coronavirus. We arrived at the Meliá Braga at 1:30am and exhausted. The receptionist was ready for us! He helped us with our baggage and then parked our car so we could get right to bed. I asked him how well coronavirus regulations were followed, and he said everyone wears masks and distances in Braga, which we happily found to be true. The hotel requires masks in all public areas except when eating. If a person leaves a table, the mask must be put back on. Staff sanitizes constantly. Breakfast was delicious. Although it was a buffet, everything was behind plexiglass, and servers prepared our plates. The rooms are very comfortable and spotless. We have 3 more nights here, and we are stress free! Thank you to all the staff at the Meliá Braga, and a BIG thank you to the gentleman who checked us in! His smile and reassurances helped us get a good nights sleep.
