Clean & friendly but too hot.

Reviewed 7 september, 2022

The hotel is in the old city and about a 10 minute walk to the centre. Looked a bit dated from the outside. Inside, however, was spacious, modern and clean. The bedrooms were spotlessly clean and very large with guest safe and refrigerator. The rooms were very quiet. Breakfast was buffet style which was fine with a good selection. The bar area was very well laid out and not overly expensive for a hotel bar. All members of staff were friendly, polite and helpful. Special thanks to the young man on reception duty when we checked in , Saturday 3rd September, sorry didn’t catch your name, as our booking could’ve caused confusion . It was sorted out very professionally. I must also apologise to you as I think a member of our party took a shine to you and she made you blush. The biggest criticisms for the hotel was how hot it was. We were there with temperatures in the high 20s and humid. There didn’t appear to be any functioning air conditioning either in the hotel or the rooms. The other issue and this was more a staffing problem was that the hotel bar was closed 2 nights out of the 4 that wee were there. As whole though worth a stay. Will definitely be using again.

Good location

Great location to explore Bruges, easy walking from the hotel. Staff were good just the dirty carpet in the rooms was a major disappointment. The room had minimal power points available for charging requirements.

Very nice.

I enjoyed my stay at the Novotel. The room was fine, the breakfast was good and the staff were friendly and helpful. The only drawback is it’s not air conditioned and the summer of 2022 was very hot. If it’s cool when you visit it’s very good.

Average not worth the money

Reviewed 4 september, 2022

The overall stay has been average and not really worth the money, the room is average with no air conditioning with the temperature outside being over 30c. Had to ask for a fan which arrived late at night on day 2. The bathroom was old and has changed colour, we had a family room which the sofa bed was not ready for us which i had to put together myself. The pool was not available as they had no chlorine which was our only reason for staying at the hotel, when asked about the pool the staff were not aware if the pool will open or not. The continental breakfast had no fried or poached eggs boiled eggs and overcooked scrambled eggs not many options for vegetarians. Our room had only 1 water bottle on the first day in a family room and the rest of the days no drinking water was available and when i asked the receptionist for water she told me that i can buy it for €3. Whats the use having the toilet separate from the bathroom when there is no sink in the toilet also no lock on the bathroom or toilet doors!! As much as the staff were friendly and breakfast was good not really going to come back here.

Tired, in need of renovation and staff training.

We tagged Bruges onto the end of our Belgium trip and the Novotel seemed like a good option having stayed them many years ago. What a disappointment. The hotel has certainly seen better days and it’s ‘heyday’ has certainly been and gone. The staff all bar one extremely efficient and professional gentleman were off hand, disinterested and unhelpful. I was traveling with two disabled guests who had additional needs. Let’s just say the staff went out of they way to be unhelpful with the slightest of requests, one which was to allow a wheelchair to be dropped off and collected during our stay. I’m not the first review to mention the temperature within the rooms as the excuse that the air con isn’t working seems to be a regular occurrence. Don’t bother asking for a fan, they won’t have one for you. Also, and this maybe the worse, both my son and I left covered in bedbugs. I’ve never experienced this before however have read reviews of other hotels who have experienced the same. Not wanting to post photos of the bites but be assured we left covered in them. You will also see photos of the skirting boards coming off and awful stains on the carpets. There are better hotels closer to the main square for the same money, don’t bother with this hotel until they have seen to a complete refurb.
