Nice staff, 1930s room shows its age.

Reviewed 1 january, 2016

First the positive, the staff at Che Lulu were very friendly and helpful. And the bed was ok and the location in old Palermo district is handy. Unfortunately the rooms appear to be from the 1930s and have not been updated or well maintained, the shower was primitive, shared with toilet. The walls and floors are in a sorry state (blackened with something in places) and even through they are cleaned, they looked broken and dirty. The airconditioning managed a weak cooling effect - it definitely needs servicing. Despite the nice staff I cannot recommend staying here - germaphobes would run away screaming. It cost US$65 per night, which appears to be cheap for Buenos Aires.

Never visit this Guesthouse unless you like really bad behavior and the worst breakfast I had at any kind of Hotell/Hostel or Guesthouse and I been staying over 8 month in my life at differant places all around the world. Old white boring bread, plastic marmelade and watery coffee. To start with I thought this place seemed really nice. Its very charmy looking in a friendly, little bit gayish style and Martin, behind the desk, was a happy and helpfull serviceminded guy. He promised us to use the computer, the only, so we could make reservations for further flights/hotells. This is very important ofcourse so we asked several times to be sure and he said yes, no problem ofcourse. So despite no hot water in the shower, you cant pay the really expensive, for the standard, rooms with credit cards and that he promised to help me find massage for my bad back, wich he ofcourse did not, I was just fine with the place. Mostly cause of the atmosphere and the bit bohemic style. The problem came the next day when my friend came so we could make our reservation as they promised. There were this new old man in the reception now and he was threating my friend very bad from the beginning. He would not let him in even if he had been there before and the old man was informed about our bookingplans. It took a couple of minutes for us to understand the old man was simply a racist cause of my friends colour of the skin. We started to use the computer for our booking but the old man interuped us all time and made everything he could to desterve, like putting music on really loud, by refusing us sit on the chairs etc until he finally told us that we cant make the reservation cause we took to long. It was stupid. After staying 300 nights(?) in differant places this was the first time I said Im leaving this Guesthouse now. Even if I booked for 3 more nights. Do not ever stay here unless you have the same colour on your skin as the owner. A racist Guesthouse! I thought that was not possible. But it is. At Che Lulu Guesthouse.

Difficult Review

Reviewed 29 october, 2015

This is tough. I spent three nights at Che Lulu and they were generally bad night's sleep. Noise travels horrendously in this place and from the dorm on the top floor you can hear a mouse fart in reception. The showers too were pretty woeful. However, the owners are fantastic, super friendly, really helpful, the place is cute and it's really well located for the fun of Palermo, plus it's only a shirt walk from the subway. Stay here, just don't expect too much.

GREAT staff but SO loud and awful shower

Reviewed 22 september, 2015

I'm really torn writing this review. The manager here is absolutely wonderful, he draws on maps, he gives recommendations for everything, he was sincerely concerned about us having the BEST time. The other staff were also very friendly and helpful, but I really cannot speak highly enough of the manager. The room was private and cute and the location was excellent. Now begins my rant: our room's door never really closed, so we had to shove stuff against the door to keep it closed. It's an old place, so everything was incredibly squeaky- which is one thing. But every single night, one of the staff's entire family would come over and party until 5 am. So, when 25 people (and this place is relatively small) is screaming, laughing and squeaking all over the place- it becomes a huge problem. Also, if one tried to join the party, it was like interrupting a family party and so they would go silent and just stare. Moreover, the bathrooms were actually falling apart. The faucets were leaky and dripped water constantly. Depending on the time of day, there could be no hot water and the water pressure was literally drops. A shower took 45 minutes, and it was cold (and it was the winter). Breakfast was very average for a hostel. Would I stay here again? Nope.

Great location with friendly English-speaking staff

Reviewed 25 march, 2014

Che Lulu has a great location in Palermo and the staff we interacted with spoke great English and was very helpful, giving us useful advice on things to do in the city and where to buy certain items to pay the best price - not the tourist price. The bathroom fan was noisy and the room wasn't as dark as we'd have liked in the morning, but other than that, we had a great experience there and I would not hesitate to return if I were to visit Buenos Aires again.
