It was disgusting… all of the homeless and smokers roaming around. The day staff is nice. After that , good luck. The 24 hour restaurant is good. But treated poorly by staff. It’s a last resort type of hotel.

The only thing decent about this hotel is that it was priced on the lower end for the area. We only stayed here as family had booked the hotel and we were on a road trip with them. It was prepaid and we were not able to cancel and get a refund, or I would have left as soon as we got to the room. First, the front office staff at check-in was rude. I requested an extra key and she said NO, we could not have one. There is a $15 per day fee to park there, and you must display the tag or your car will be towed. We get to our room (502-note the elevator was out so we had to climb the stairs to the fifth floor multiple times a day), and it is bad! It is dirty, there is hardwood floors but carpet squares under the beds and nightstand. It is stuffy and smells like mold and mildew. The bathroom tub was running and there was black mold on both walls of the bathroom behind the floor trim. I had to keep the fan running and the door shut the whole time. There was black mold on the inside door-frame of our room also. My daughter moved the nightstand to look for a plugin, and the odor of mildew filled the room. The A/C was disgusting and had an awful smell coming from it. We had to use it as the room was so stuffy and hot. The second day, the AC stopped working. My husband took off the cover to reset it (he knows what he's doing) and it was full of all kinds of lint, dirt, mold, etc. The reset did not work and we were without AC the second night. Our family in another room had issues as well. Their phone and TV did not work at all. The door would not lock on closing, you had to use the key to get the lock to engage. As soon as we checked into our room, two police officers arrived and were coming up the stairs to a room below ours. Shortly after, 2 more police cars (with multiple officers) arrived and were going to another location in the hotel. A firetruck and ambulace arrived shortly after and went to yet another location at the hotel. There were numerous homeless people loitering around, people living in the motel, people smoking marijuana at the hotel even though it was supposed to be non-smoking, and people outside being loud at all hours of the night. Oh and parking was awful! We paid for parking but could barely find any, and most did not feel safe. We did not want to park in the back corner in the dark, when our room was at the other end of the hotel. The rules state if you park over the line, they will tow you, but numerous guests were parked over the lines taking up spaces. There were cars without permits, cars covered in dirt (not moved in a while), cars with flat tires, etc. that obviously haven't been moved in a while. If your going to charge for parking, we expect to have parking by our rooms AND for it to be safe. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL UNLESS YOUR ONLY LOOKING FOR SOMETHING CHEAP AND NOTHING ELSE MATTERS TO YOU.

Yuck! My family arrived past midnight and lasted no longer than 2hrs. My 3yr old son got HIVES on his face from rubbing his face on their bedsheet. Building smelled like weed. NEVER will we ever stay here! We left as soon as that happened! I have a 1yr and 3yr old son, we didn’t feel safe there! As we were leaving, one of the neighbor was smoking weed outside their door! Safe your money, and stay somewhere else. This place is a 1 star motel at best.
A surprisingly good property, but you'll need a strong nerve...

The Bay Area is notoriously expensive for hotel accommodation, although the COVID pandemic did bring prices down dramatically for a while. Alas, they are now rising back to pre-COVID levels, so if you’re looking for a bargain, they’re much harder to find. Hence, properties such as The Red Roof Inn Burlingame, which offers low rates in any circumstances, may become a viable option for those who’d normally overlook a property of this type. There are several nerve jangling things to worry about this hotel, but overall, if you can ignore them, you may be pleasantly surprised by your experience. I certainly was. The hotel itself is not really accessible without a car. It sits on the Burlingame peninsula, away from any public transportation. In non-COVID times, you may be able to hitch a ride from SFO Airport with one of the shuttles provided by the next door Doubletree or Hilton Garden Inn, but since they’re not running in COVID times, you’ll either need your own car or an Uber/Taxi to get here. The property is large and has an on-site diner/restaurant that is open 24 hours, although it’s a separate entity to the hotel, as is the lobby. No charging anything to your room! There is ample parking, despite having several out of commission, derelict vehicles taking spaces and I believe there’s no charge for using the lot. The hotel has its own pool and an on-site laundry, but otherwise is limited in amenities. There are vending machines for snacks and drinks. No lounge or communal areas to sit. Security is the biggest worry about this property, but although it appears scary in so many ways, NOTHING at all happened during my extended stay. The hotel is open to the world. No gates, no entrances, no lobby to pass through (the lobby is separated from the building) so that anyone can walk in any time, right up to your door. All rooms are off the public access gangways, with the only window open to all to view inside. I strongly suggest keeping your drapes shut when not in your room and perhaps even when you’re inside as otherwise your room/belongings are on full view 24/7. There is a small safe in the room, but it doesn’t hold much. You can bolt the door, but the lock was loose. There are some very, very dodgy people staying at the property (it would appear they actually live here) and the visitors are somewhat shady. More than once, I found someone lurking outside my room, knocking on different doors. I strongly suggest anything of value that won’t fit in your safe, take it with you when you are out of your room. Every morning starts with a fracas somewhere on the property with shouting and fights. These recur during the day and night. Nobody bothered me or approached me, but it still is unsettling to be surrounded by such violent behavior, even if it’s just verbal. There are also a large number of dogs living on site in various rooms. However, once you’re in your room, you will be somewhat pleasantly surprised. The rooms are clean and are cleaned daily. Many of the higher end properties (actually, almost all of them) in the vicinity are no longer offering daily housekeeping. The linens are clean and changed regularly the rooms thoroughly disinfected each day and the laminate floors washed daily. There’s tea, coffee, microwave, fridge, iron, ironing board, safe and a big flat screen TV. Good lighting and power points and excellent free WIFI. Very strong and fast signal. No login required. There’s a big desk and office chair. I didn’t use the heater or AirCon, but it is in the room. There’s plenty of space for clothes and luggage. Bathrooms are small and divided into a bath/shower combo and toilet in a closed room and the open sink in the bedroom. All are modern and the water pressure is excellent. Soap and shampoo are provided, along with a hair dryer. The towels are relatively clean, but have signs of historic staining. The pool area is very popular and is cleaned regularly, but still there was a lot of flotsam and jetsam in the water that put me off. A LOT of children use the pool, until quite late at night, so there’s always noise. I was going to use the pool until I saw one ‘resident’ was in the water with two of his dogs. The dogs were having swimming lessons and then being bathed. I wasn’t going near the water after that. The pool should be for humans only. It’s bad enough you hear and see the children coughing their guts into the water constantly, without knowing dogs are using it as their bathroom. One night (and it only happened once) a frat style party took place in the pool and they were partying to well after 1AM. Since there really is no staff on site, there’s not much that can be done. The thing that did surprise me is that there is no room-to-room noise at all. You hear what’s going on in the public areas, but not a peep from your next door rooms. You pay in full when you check in and the desk person seems to be the only member of staff on site other than the housekeepers during the day. The housekeepers/maids are very nice and do a very thorough job. I wouldn’t have chosen this property other for the very, very attractive rate. I was nervous of certain things, but in fact, my stay was pleasant and safe. It will suit the casual one/two night traveler, but may not be ideal for anything longer, despite it clearly being a long term solution for many living here. I’ve paid a LOT more for a LOT worse in the Bay Area. The soundproofing from room-room, if not from the outside, is something many more expensive properties in this locale should study. Doubt I’ll be back, but I’ll certainly keep it in mind as a future option.
