Some good, some bad.
This hotel is in a great location! On the waterfront, about as near as you can get to the Quadra Island ferry terminal. It’s an attractive enough hotel, staff are polite, and covid safety protocols are good. Parking is right outside the front door. My room was comfortable and pleasant. The bed needs to be replaced, though: while the sides of the bed were comfortable, the middle of the bed was kind of raised up. So I guess the sides of the bed have been squished down by the weight of guests’ bodies over the years, but the middle part has not. On the first night of my stay I was kept awake for about an hour by somebody walking around in the suite above mine. This seemed to be normal walking - nothing crazy or malicious - so I think that the sound-proofing between floors is a little lacking. There is a desk thing and an office chair. The ergonomics here are a problem, though. If I raise the chair to its highest setting, it is still not high enough! My forearms are not parallel to the ground when using my computer, because the desk top is still too high. So my hands are then significantly higher than my elbows, which leads to muscle strain. Fortunately I had a portable laptop stand with me, which I used. If I had not brought that I would have been unable to work on my computer during my stay. There was no safe in my hotel room, which left me wondering what do do with valuables while I was out. Access to the hotel’s wifi network was frustrating. After connecting to wifi, my browser opened to the hotel’s Facebook page. It looked as if I would need to log in to Facebook to continue! (I was able to bypass this, but many users will not realize they can do so.) The hotel wants guests to log into FB and to ‘like’ the hotel on FB. I hate this. I don’t use Facebook and I don’t appreciate being dumped onto FB just so that the hotel can get likes. This is a key deal-breaker for me. I will try to stay elsewhere next time so that I can avoid this. I like this hotel. Friends who are local to the area recommended it, so I’m not sure there is anything better in Campbell River. It is certainly adequate, although my experience with the Facebook thing, the bed, the desk/office chair ergonomics, and the noise were troubling.
Heater like having a truck in the room
This is a really great hotel with wonderful staff. However the room heaters are like having a truck in the room. You can’t sleep without turning it off and then the room is stuffy or cold. Don’t understand why hotels have these AC heating systems.
Nice Hotel
The property is well located, the area is quiet and nice. The staff is super polite and caring. Everybody was following covid safety measures. We’re really satisfied with our stay. Our room was big and comfy.
Would stay again
We stayed in early November 2020. Quick and courteous check-in. Our king room was spacious, clean, comfortable and quiet; very comfortable bed. We had to leave early in the morning and they packed a 'go bag' for us for breakfast. Would definitely stay here again.
Fabulous view - the suite was a bit tired
The best bits: excellent COVID protocols are in place. You can book a private time to swim in the indoor pool. The bed was excellent with the best pillows we had on our entire trip. Loved the ocean view. Not so good: our room wasn't as clean as it might have been. When we opened the drapes to look at the views, we found two metal bottle caps on the floor. The WIFI kept dropping out so we burned through some of data plan when we failed to notice we'd lost it. Because we were working as we travelled, we anticipated there being a desk in a suite. There wasn't one. The little kitchen-type table was so high, it was almost necessary to lift our elbows to our ears to work on a keyboard. The lighting is still old-fashioned, migraine-inducing (for real) CFL's. The bathroom feels a bit dated with its low toilet and lack of a safety rail for stepping in and out of the tub. It wasn't necessary for us but shorter guests may find it problematic. The open breakfast is a thing of the past with COVID so there is the option to collect a bag lunch in the lobby which is a nice adaptation. Lastly - and this happens throughout the hotel industry these days - what is with the tissue thin toilet paper? Pack your own.
