Didn’t live upto the Hard rock experience

Reviewed 22 september, 2022

I was expecting big things for this hotel given the hype around Hard Rock however, I was slightly disappointed. On arrival, we were upgraded to ‘Rock Royalty level’ which we were super excited about however when we got to our room we were on level 3 and didn’t have a sea view ( which we paid extra for) and infront of our balcony a wedding was taking place which was super loud! We asked to move to a higher floor but were told this wasn’t an option.Construction work was going on throughout the day and on our last day the food shack was closed for renovations along with the fast food restaurant… A pre-warning would have been nice!! Overall the staff weren’t that friendly and tipping didn’t seem to prompt a better service. I struggle to see the benefit of ‘rock royalty’ as our butlers couldn’t reserve a table in the evening at any of the restaurants and couldn’t book a taxi etc. The food was amazing but recommend being at the restaurant at the opening time as it gets busy and you’ll only end up waiting an hour + to be seated. Other than the above, we had a fantastic holiday. The pool/beach was lovely and the premium spirits ( grey goose etc) was a big plus. Hard Rock Hotel Cancun is rated 5 star but is nowhere near that. If it wasn’t as expensive, the problems I mentioned above wouldn’t really be an issue.

I can't give this resort more then 2 stars and I was expecting it to be a 5 star resort. Reasons: 1) as soon as we checked-in after a long trip there the timeshare folks were waiting for us, although you they don't want you to call it timeshare now, its basically them selling you a package in the thousands for future trips there or one of their other resorts. Totally annoyed by this, we were tired and hungry and the last thing we wanted to hear was the presentation/sales pitch. 2) The food and selection at buffet in the mornings was not that great, I was expecting to have great fresh fruit options and the fruit looked sad and not ripe enough. Zen restaurant (Japanese) was okay as well as Steakhouse restaurant, our favorite was the Italian. 3) The property looks like it needs alot of maintenance work, updating, carpet change etc... such a nice property but poorly maintained. 4) We had the yellow bands which means you are second class citizens at their resort, if you have the black or gray bands, then you can make reservations for lounge chairs, restaurants, access to the better food etc.. (honestly did not know this until I got there) The best part of our stay was the staff and service, always friendly and happy to help. With that said there were too many negatives for me to want to visit this property again? I hope management gets their resort in order because its honestly hurting the Hard Rock brand.

Hard Rock brand but not Hard Rock quality

Reviewed 21 september, 2022

Hard Rock Cancun is a perfectly acceptable all-inclusive hotel in Cancun, Mexico; its high volume and service can be slow and a bit reluctant. The 24-hour room service includes the Legendary Burger and is pretty good. Still, the rest of the food feels very ordinary, like a mid to low-range cruise ship (the Asian-themed restaurant uses spaghetti instead of udon noodles, and the Italian-themed restaurant serves spaghetti casserole as their only lunch pasta dish). Some of the staff set up ping pong and cornhole tournaments, but after we played for a bit, they asked for the equipment back because they wanted to play amongst themselves. Shades for the beach recliners are available until 11:00 am, and they are stored at 5:00 pm, so if you are out early for a day in the sand, you will be without shade under the Cancun sun, which afforded us some light sunburns even on sunblock. Overall, it was a good vacation, and we had lots of fun in Cancun, but next time we will try out a different hotel, and I would advise newcomers not to pay full-price for Hard Rock Cancun.

Very good but could be great!

Overall a very good resort to stay at while in Cancun, no major problems, it’s our first time in Cancun so we have nothing to compare to but we have stayed in European all inclusive resorts before and this almost matched (not exceeded) our expectations. I’d come close to saying it’s not worth the extra money that you pay over some of the other resorts, and it is likely you are paying for the “brand” however we still had a fantastic holiday! The great points: - the service from all staff was great, Majo and Irma the pool waitresses always kept our drinks flowing while sat around the pool, all servers in the restaurants were very attentive, Dany at the concierge and the staff at check in were great- the check out process is slightly odd and felt erratic however - room was always spotless and had everything we could want, mini fridge replenished daily, air con always worked and was cold, jacuzzi bath was a nice bonus! The lagoon side is where the sun set so we had some fantastic evenings on the balcony watching it. - room service is 24/7, quick and efficient and always tasty and we used it multiple times. - entertainment was great, we travelled during Mexico Independence Day and the celebrations were fantastic; mariachi, Mexican wrestling and fireworks, the theatre shows that we saw (LED light show, Studio 54 and Queen tribute band) were all excellent, there was also a pool foam party on our last day which was a lot of fun! - food in Zen and Ciao was excellent, even if the starter and side portions are on the small side The not so good points - Frida and Toro restaurant food was okay- we were told Toro was the most popular restaurant in the hotel and sometimes had a 2 hour wait but we got in quickly and were slightly disappointed with the food- a side dish of vegetables was one small piece of broccoli, carrot and cauliflower (we laughed about it!) - pool loungers always fill up quickly, which is a given at hotel resorts I feel. We did see staff moving towels after a certain period of time to free them for others which is good - the music was the sore point for us; there’s really nothing Hard Rock about it except in the lobby where all the memorabilia is displayed, it’s like they forgot their own theme. The pool has competing speakers so if you sit in the middle you get a weird mix which isn’t nice. The pool party was almost exclusively Latin music, which isn’t a problem however doesn’t cater to all guests which I feel is important in a multicultural resort. - in addition to the choice of music it’s important to note that it plays 24/7 at the same volume. We stayed in room 1051 on the lagoon side and I could still hear music at 4am. We got up at 5:30am for a trip and went down to the lobby and were shocked at how loud it was. I slept with earplugs in anyway as I’m a light sleeper, my boyfriend slept fine without but I’d say the lower the floor the louder it would be. - there is construction work going on the ocean side and really the whole exterior of the hotel could do with painting or brightening up, in comparison to the JW Marriott next door it looks a bit worn but that’s purely a personal opinion. I'd recommend the hotel overall but I’d suggest you read a few reviews to get a feel for the hotel as it seems guests have a love/hate relationship with it and a few are on the same page as us in that it’s a great place but not mind blowing.
