Overall the resort is lively and fun! A mix of ages and even a few children. I think there is something for everyone here whether you want to relax or party. Pros: The staff is helpful and friendly. Most of them do everything with a smile. Our morning & evening buffet servers always called out to us and seated us near the beach. There are plenty of pool options, & pools are warm . The party pool is energetic & fun, & the foam party was pretty cool. The beach is very clean with rocks near the shore and it draws in a lot of fish that are neat to see. Staff is always cleaning. Cons: I have never seen so many smokers before. A lot of people smoke that come here. There are ashtrays on every table outside in on every balcony. It was annoying as a non smoker. Our room smelled of smoke too. The restaurants were “meh”, after the 3rd day we stuck to the buffet. Buffet was ok, just always the same menu. The beds are hard, old and dirty (don’t look under the sheet lol). Pillows are hard, old, dirty, and reek of sweat. I do love a decent comfy bed and pillow so, this is a big negative for me. Alcohol, wow, if you like top shelf or near it, this is not for you. You cannot get it. Big bummer. The alcohol is very watered down. We’re not drinkers and we drank a lot. I should have been wasted, but I wasn’t. I can’t imagine the calories I consumed. The night entertainment is just okay. We’ve had much better at other resorts. This is a European hot spot. Probably 80% or more are from some part of Europe. We found out fast that some do not like Americans. We had no problems being American, only when we tried to socialize with a few groups of people, they would not. They just gave us a dirty look. A group of people were talking crap about American in the pool and we were standing right there. It made us uncomfortable. Others were very friendly and engaged in conversation with us. We are social people & we met some really cool people here. Overall, if you get it for a good price like we did it is not bad for the money, just okay. We have stayed cat other resorts for a little more & the amenities were much better but not as fun. One and done for us.

Relaxation in paradise

Excellent resort! Views from the room were amazing! Food was great! Service was top notch! Hotel within walking distance to shopping and nightlife. Beach was clean and very pretty. Hotel has snorkel gear you can rent to snorkel. Saw small sting ray and lots of fish. Pools are nice and clean. Rooms were clean. Fridge in rooms were stocked daily. It felt as if all the staff goes out of their way to make your vacation stay great. One of the great benefits is no reservations needed to any of the restaurants!

Riu Cancun September 2022 Holiday🫶🏼

Myself and my boyfriend stayed at the Riu Cancun in September for 11 nights and it was absolutely AMAZING. Everything from the cleanliness of the hotel to the bar service was outstanding. I can not recommend this hotel highly enough. The staff at The Riu went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. On arrival, our room wasn’t quite ready at 4pm for check-in and without hesitation they instantly upgraded our room to an executive suite as an apology. Our room had a king size bed and overlooked the sea view - the room was cleaned daily and the mini bar was always restocked for us. The choice of food was incredible and was always served with a smile from the staff. Hotel is in the heart of Cancun’s night/party life, and the hotel atmosphere buzzes “party season” so definitely a good choice if you like a drink and to have a good time. The entertainment staff (particularly jack, whiskey and looney) were amazing at getting everyone involved and keeping us all entertained. 10/10 will definitely go back again!!!!

Best holiday ever

I don’t always write reviews, but felt I needed to after reading some unfair reviews in my opinion. Arrived at the hotel and there was initially an issue with our first room, the staff went out of their way to sort it out. The hotel was clean, food good and the staff were all exceptional. The best entertainment crew by far, restaurant and bar staff all went out of their way to help and were so friendly. Was very lively so if this isn’t what you want from a holiday, maybe not for you, but the idea is to join in and embrace it. Met the best people and we’re even planning a reunion there next year. The best holiday I’ve had and it’s thanks to the staff and hospitality shown here.

Perfect getaway

Arrived for 2 weeks at RIU Cancun. It was the height of hurricane season but we only had 2 rainy days. The hotel is in a great location to walk to restaurants and shops, the famous coco bongo is 5 minute walk away. There is a bus stop right outside that will take you into Cancun city (downtown). The food in the buffet is excellent. I wasn’t too impressed with the restraurants though. You scan a QR code for the menu and the food that’s served is nothing like the pic on the menu. Also the portions are quite small. Staff are fantastic. Rooms are spacious if a little dated, but clean. Fridge and optics are fully stocked. There are 3 pools I think but we stuck with the “quiet” pool and the beach area is a step away and lovely and clear.
