Beware of your safety!
I hate to leave negative feedback during COVID, but your safety will be in jeopardy if you stay here. If management is to respond to this report, they are only further projecting their irrational responses to a dangerous situation. The hotel's front desk was empty for most of my stay. Normally, after 7 PM, this is not a cause for concern, but two guests became very violent inside their hotel room. At 11 PM, one of those guests climbed out of their window and was yelling vulgar slurs from the roof. Most of the guests called management (which was not on-site) and the police came. The violent guests ran downstairs and blocked the front door. After, they were removed from the property. At no point did hotel management show up. There was no communication with the other guests that "the issue" had been resolved. Therefore, everyone felt like they couldn't leave their rooms because their safety was in jeopardy. The entire situation could have been prevented by hotel management being on-site. The situation lasted for more than five (5) hours. Without a proper resolution, the property put everyone's lives in danger, which is clear because the police showed up to protect the other guests. If you are a single traveler or any traveler, please stay somewhere where management has your safety in mind. The event that unfolded, including the property's outdated facilities and rooms, indicates that management is neglecting to provide a safe environment for their guests.
Beautiful and Peaceful
I like the area where the Inn is located. It is very close to the beach, and also very quiet. Parking is easy. We walked to the shops, a little over a mile. You can do this by walking through residential areas, or walk along the beach and then turn right onto Ocean Ave. We were in room 4 which had a comfy queen bed and a gas fireplace which kept the room warm. The gas did not smell or make any noise. Guests were mostly middle aged couples (no children are allowed). Quiet time is from 10 pm to 6 am. Breakfast was excellent, with quiche (vegetarian or ham), croissants, yogurt, and fruit. A woman in the kitchen serves the quiche and croissants so there are no germs shared on serving utensils. She was very competent and took good care of us. This is a place to go if you want to be by the sea in a quiet place.
Stones throw from the beach!
We were initially unsure of whether to stay in Carmel or Monterey during our road trip but The Sandpiper Inn swung it for us. Upon arrival we were met by a friendly welcome and checked in promptly. We were shown around the ground floor - where everything was, the library, coffee and tea, tv/communal area. Upstairs our room was clean and tidy with space to hang clothes and dump cases. We walked down to the beach which wasn’t far from the sandpiper. It’s very quiet in Carmel and extremely dog friendly - everyone seemed to have one. The sandy beach was clean and spacious and had great views out to sea. The bed was comfy, shower wasn’t overly great due to the water pressure. Breakfast was tea, coffee, cereal, yogurts and croissants. I would thoroughly recommend this inn as a place to stay.
Lovely stay in Carmel by the Sea
What a delight to have discovered the Sandpiper Inn! It is located one block from the ocean so that the crashing of the surf could be heard as one drifts off to sleep. The bed was spacious and comfortable. Our ensuite room #1 was tastefully furnished with antique furniture and even has its own gas fireplace for added coziness on a cool evening. The reception and kitchen staff were superb. Breakfast was delicious with fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, quiche and the usual trimmings. An added bonus was the Inn's resident cat, Vader, who delights everone who crosses his path. All in all, we had a wonderful short stay and recommend it highly to anyone passing through this part of California.
Homiest place ever
Wow, did we enjoy staying here! This inn — a big old house one block from the beach — is more like a home than anywhere I've ever stayed. Our room was large, airy, and comfortable; the mattress was excellent. The outdoor firepit and the large common room were delightful. Breakfasts were a bit redundant after a while, but served with warmth and friendliness; the owner seemed like my aunt, really (an aunt I never had!). There's only one TV, in the common room, which was fine with us — and evidently, all the other guests too, because no one ever turned it on (as far as I know). They put out cookies and tea every afternoon. We slept really well here, and enjoyed coming back after the day's adventures. We hated to leave.
