Mary’s place takes the biscuit (and the cake)
Reviewed 20 april, 2022
Mary is the perfect host at Glen Carrig. She greeted us (two grizzled bikers) with warmth and enthusiasm. The rooms are spacious, well equipped and warm. There are plenty of facilities, such as a games room, although we didn’t use it. Her porter cake which she gave us for our travels the next day was delicious, as is her famed sticky toffee pudding. We had a super breakfast in convivial company with a Polish lady and her cousin. Mary’s baking is legendary and it’s a place I’d love to come back to. parking is super-safe there. It’s a bit too far to walk into Carigaholt, so take a car or bike to the Long Dock for dinner. Great stay in a a very friendly place with lovely views of the Shannon (and the best baking in Ireland). Did I mention the baking?

Can’t recommend Glencarrig B&B enough. Mary and Luke were brilliant hosts, always happy to help in any way they could. Mary’s food is second to none and the house itself was lovely and clean with a pool table and dart board for guests to use. Great value.

We cannot praise the hospitality at Glencarrig highly enough - unpretentious, homely and comfortable, with the most amazing views - the highlight was Mary’s wonderful cooking and baking and her generous nature. We were welcomed with home made muffins, and each day began with a fabulous breakfast accompanied by homemade scones. Both Mary and Luke are wonderful hosts, we highly recommend a stay here.

Great B&B

Stayed here in December. Mary is the consummate host. Very welcoming. Very clean room and a very good shower plenty of hot water. The guest rooms are in a separate part of the house with a small games room pool table and dart board. A small kitchenette where you can make tea or coffee. Mary shared some of her Christmas cake which was delicious. A nice little snack after a long drive. For breakfast we had yougurt, granola, and a warm fruit compote, warm croissants, homemade gooseberry and black currant jams and French pressed coffee. This was the perfect place to stop on our journey. We we made feel very welcome and would certainly stay here again. Social distancing and Covid 19 protocols were in place by the owner.

What a Gem of a place!

We stayed one night on our trip around Ireland. We were the only guests on that particular night. Glencarrig is so peaceful - you are literally out in the country, with cows for neighbors. It is so beautiful, serene and has beautiful views of the Shannon. We loved our hostess, Mary. She found out that we were "McMahan" and was excited to share local history about the area for us. She gave us excellent recommendations for driving around County Clare - especially to focus on Loop Head Peninsula and skip Cliffs of Moher. We did just that - and we don't regret it at all. Going to less-touristy areas really gives you a feel for Ireland and the natural beauty of the scenery and it's people. Mary is an outstanding cook - breakfast omelets were delicious, as well as the homemade breads and jams. And...she packed a sweet treat for us to have later in the day. Thank you Mary - our visit was memorable!
