I Must Have Missed Something
Stayed at this property one night during a business trip based on reviews found here on Tripadvisor, but man was it a mistake. Driving up, everything looked nice and the lobby area is quite grand. The staff, which consisted of one person, the same one at night as in the next morning, provided a nice welcome. I was provided an upgrade to a room with a balcony, but things started going downhill after that. Upon entering the room, it smelled of smoke. Not terribly strong, but enough to know. During these COVID times, I always wipe down all of the surfaces in the room, and this one was less than clean before my work. I contemplated moving hotels, but decided to stick it out for the one night. The furniture in the room was extremely dated, the couch was broken down, and the bed was terribly uncomfortable. The walls around the toilet were absolutely gross. All kinds of "matter" could be found there, just nasty! I walked in shoes the entire time to avoid contact with the tile and carpeting. Clean is NOT a word I would use with this hotel. The main hallways between rooms had all kinds of dirt and debris all over too. I let the staff member know about the smoke smell, and I received an unenthusiastic apology. Oh, and the balcony, the only purpose it served was to allow marijuana smoke to rise up from the guest below through the poorly sealed doors at about 2:00AM. Yes, I could have changed hotels, but I elected to stick it out. In retrospect, I should have left and sought out better options. The next time I'm in town, I will NOT be staying anywhere near this place. I stay in Hilton properties exclusively, and they should investigate this property as something is definitely off.
100% recommend - they go above and beyond!
Last week we decided to have an overnight getaway to Raleigh so we could go to the North Carolina Zoo (highly recommend by the way). In our haste to check out of the hotel, coupled with our obvious inexperience in staying in hotels with two young kids, we inadvertently left a few important things behind (no, not the kids). Unfortunately we did not realize this royal parent screw up until we got home later that night. Thankfully we got hold of Megan on the front desk who proudly announced they had just located one duck, one koala and one bear in the laundry. She informed a very worried little girl that she would tuck them into a bed in an unoccupied room and would send them back to us the next day. Today we were relieved to receive a special care package. Apparently said duck, koala and bear had decided to stay at the hotel a little longer, but their newfound friend Megan had hooked them up with a new book and some travel snacks for the journey home. If you’re ever staying in the Raleigh area, we HIGHLY recommend the Homewood Suites by Hilton Raleigh/Cary. Thank you for a wonderful stay and taking care of our little friends 🙂
Needs a little more TLC
Nice front desk staff afternoon and early morning. Booked on Priceline and no problems with reservation. Front elevator would not close until the reception staff came a manually snatched back into closing. Made me nervous and I found the rear elevator. Thermostat is set on 70° and not adjustable, uncomfortable on a muggy fall day. Furniture and beds comfortable. Nice, soft towels. Full-sized fridge, kitchenette nice to have. Toilet wouldn't flush & maintenance came up right away and repaired faulty valve. This room needs a bit of TLC. Hood over 2 burner stove hanging by one screw, "face prints" on windows, bathroom caulking is dirty--needs freshening up. Dusting details on furniture & walls (yes, walls) vacuuming under couch, corners, etc. A whole wrapped roll of paper towels, rather than 1/2 used opened roll would seem to be a good idea due to covid-19 worries. While none of the above mentioned observations affected our stay, except for the thermostat, they were extremely noticable. The asst of choose my own light breakfast items was adequate and appreciated.
Rude front desk employee
We had booked a king bed suite thru Priceline and when we checked in the woman at the front made a comment that the reservation was from priceline. She then preceded to put us in a regular room. When I told her we had booked a king suite she said that priceline only booked a standard room and that "they lie"! She charged us an additional $15 for a suite. when we went to the room it was a queen bed instead of a king. We found our receipt from priceline that clearly states a king suite so went back to the front desk. She was extremely rude and acted like she was doing us a favor by giving us a king suite even though it is what we paid for! The breakfast is a joke also.
Dirty with a Side of Toenail
So there is a little virus going around called Covid. Knowing cleanliness is a must during a pandemic you think that a hotel would have clean sheets. To my surprise I found a toenail in my sheets. If that wasn't enough it appeared that coffee was spilled on the wall and never cleaned. Then to top everything the towels had a brown stain on them. I have been in a portable bathroom cleaner than this hotel. I have stayed at other hotels in Cary at a lower rate and they were much better. Skip this hotel!
