Cascais , a charming town of old houses and cobbled streets huddled around a graceful bay of Portugal s spectacular Estoril Coast is only 35 minutes drive from Lisbon. The Farol Hotel is composed of a daring architectural structure: a combination of a 19th Century Mansion, once owned by the Count of Cabral , and a unique contemporary design resulting in a harmonious and fashionable Style. Acclaimed Portuguese and international fashion designers have left the...

Fabulous Location, well staffed and excellent food and wine

Reviewed 3 november, 2021

Always one of my favourite locations, warm weather site outside overlooking the mouth of the Tejo and the Atlantic, or in the winter treat yourself to the cool bar and restaurant with varied menus. Tonight I had a very filling bar snack and a few glasses of Alentejo red wine. Filip and his staff in the bar are always helpful Wirth a visit at any time.

Fantastic hotel, lovely staff

This is a beautiful hotel. Ideally situated near the centre of town but out of the way of the crowds in the main squares. The pool looks over the sea and when they say a sea view they mean it - we could see it from our bed. It was lovely and clean, breakfast was superb with an excellent selection of hot and cold food including fresh waffles, pancakes and omelettes to order. Definitely recommend it

Could be better

Great hotel overall with amazing location and wonderful quirky modern decor. They seem to have staffing problems as we were not offered a welcome drink or shown the facilities. Our room 307 was huge with 3 windows overlooking the sea. However the tiny bathroom was a Black hole! Badly designed and certainly needs improving. Cannot see the point of having complex body shower equipment if the water is low pressure. The bedroom did not have a mirror.

BEST in Cascais ... spectacular oceanside location

Reviewed 2 october, 2021

Our second visit to Cascais and our first to the Farol ... we absolutely love both. The Farol's oceanside location simply can't be matched by any other hotel in the town. The setting is spectacular ... the views are unbeatable. Easy walking distance to everything downtown--parks, museums, restaurants, and beaches. Staff was friendly, helpful, and always willing to go the extra mile. Decor is chic, contemporary, fun, and whimsical--loved the artwork inside and outside. Our contemporary, very comfortable room came with oceanview terrace and gardens. Oceanside pool was fantastic with lots of terraced and poolside lounging areas. Parking was plentiful. Contrary to some other reviews, we consider the Farol a good value and worthy of its five-star rating. OK, charging for the coffee pods in the rooms is cheesy, but not a deal-breaker in our book. From our own homeowning experiences, we know how hard the ocean is on facilities and things, so we can live with a little rust on the loungers and gutters. The Farol is still the hands down BEST place to stay in Cascais.

Needs some love

Agree with the recent reviews below. We had just stayed at a true 5 star hotel in Porto that was fabulous. The Farol hotel does not live up to the 5 star classification. The location and views are amazing, probably the best in Cascais but the hotel is run down. There is rust on the rooftops, around the entrance to the reception and around the pool. The sheets were so scratchy that it made for an uncomfortable night sleep. And yes, they charge you for coffee and tea in rooms. If the price were more reasonable I would stay again just because of the location but it was not worth the over 450 euros I was paying.
