Ar first glance we were very impressed with the beautiful hotel 1/2 of it was closed due to the lack of tourists. We got a room on the main floor bldg 26 with a nice king bed, I didn't like the pillows but it was a nice simple room. They brought water everyday which was enough for us. Internet is hit and miss si ce there was 1 day we had none and only wifi was in the lobby, not very fast however. Let's talk about the beach, it was WOW crystal clear turquoise water which was everything we hoped for. We always found chairs, and the water was calm most of the time. The mosquitoes were not on the beach but around the lobby area where the Cafe was. They spray around 6:30 or so every night, so stay in your room unless you like smoke. Food, well it was adequate and better than other Cuban resorts but no lemons for the fish, and I wish I had known that I would have brought lemon juice. The fish was good but couldn't find shrimp or shellfish or lobsters even a la carte restaurants. The beer garden restaurant had a nice grill but I didn't eat their hamburgers since I am not a fan of pork, beef is harder to come bye in Cuba. The French were always cold, so don't expect great fries , too bad it was disappointing. I was impressed with the staff however most could speak English, apparently they teach that as a Second language in school, so most of the staff could understand me and I understood them. Overall I would rate the beach 5/5 the room 3.5/5 and the food 3.5/5 the staff 4/5
2.5/5 for me

Mixed feelings about this resort. The staff were amazing and very attentive and friendly. The food was basic- eggs, French fries, rice, chicken etc. the rooms are dated. We did not get water/beer in our fridge like the ad said. No robes in the room. Wifi is very very spotty and sometimes does not work, we found it worked best in the lobby. The beach was white sand, clear water. If you are into snorkeling this beach is not very interesting. Evening performances were entertaining. This resort is a LOT of walking. For reference we were doing 20,000+ steps a day. They advertise golf carts but we stayed 11 days and we’re only given a ride once. Nice resort overall but the ad was misleading. No gym, spa, half the food was closed, no ice cream parlour. They changed it because of Covid but did not compensate for us as we booked before those things were taken away. The ala carts were good, Tex mex and international were our personal favs. Snack bars made poutine which was nice to mix things up.

April Wedding Celebration

I will be very honest, it is a very hard 4 out of 5 for my review...if it were not for all the hard work of Maria Elena the event coordinator and her team for my wedding this would be more along the lines of a 2 out of 5 review. We were a group of 8 travelling out the Friday with another two guest meeting us at the resort. The two guest are Cuban nationals and I expected their treatment to be the same as ours. I was disappointed to find out that the whole time they had been wwaiting for us they had been ignored by the staff and not even offered a welcome drink. When our bus arrived shortly after a waiter showed up with drinks and then offered it to them. Check in for this hotel is 4 pm so I expected no one's room to be ready. How do you figure all the rooms for the people coming from Canada was ready but not the two rooms for our Cuban guests. It wasn't free...just saying. Maria Elena was waiting for us in the lobby with a bouquet of flowers, this gesture touched me deeply as I know she is a very busy woman but to be waiting for me there was very kind of her. She had our room decorated beautifully. We spoke over the course of a month over all the details of the wedding and felt confident that she understood our vision. Food at the snack bar was excellent, though service was a bit slow. Understandable as it looks like they are short staffed. They were kind and friendly. Food at the Rancho was excellent, lots of grilled choices and the pizza was excellent. The service there was excellent. With a party our size (ended up being 21 people by the Tuesday) you can imagine how caotic it was but serviced to a T. Food at the buffet was okay, absolutely no protocols in place...that was a bit disappointing to see. Again, issues of the hotel not having enough staff to service the amount of people at the resort. Lobby bar - this is where the service is zero. Nothing. Horrible. At time staff had to be called over and they would not even approach the table, literally yelling out what we wanted or having to go to the bar and wait 10 minutes to be looked after. Staff did not seem happy. We are tippers, we are grateful for good service. Not even then. The rooms are older and outdated and for some silly reason they had a pull out bed in the way of every room. Did not understand the why if you booked for "x" amount of people why the extra bed in the way. When I asked for it to be removed it was a NO. Again, I did not understand the reason behind this. The tub was gross, black stains all along the bottom of the tub and no pressure or hot water what-so-ever. I did not change rooms as we had 7 luggages with us full of Wedding decor and I was willing to put up with those issues just so I didn't have to move. On both the check in and check out all of our quests had to walk a 10 minute distance with their luggage. Even after calling to book a cart to pick up our older guests. Very disappointing. The wedding, now this was everything I had hoped it would be. The arch by the beach was decorated as discussed, the champagne to toast chilled to perfection, the cocktail reception had so much food and drink we didn't know how we were going to make it to dinner. The dinner itself was set up beautifully, with all the details we wanted. Dinner was a mix of lobster, fish, pork or veggie pasta along with the accompaniments we discussed. We had private party held in is another buffet restaurant all cleared out with all the best booze you could think of, private DJ and all of our decorations. Maria Elena, no se como darte las gracias por ser que nuestro dia de bodas fuera exactamente lo que sonamos. Gracias pero mil gracias. If it was not for all the hard work of Maria Elena this review would be must worse than it is. Service in these locations is paramount to a hotels success. Maybe because we are used to such amazing service from Melia Cayo Santa Maria, that anything less is a disappointment. On a side note, if it was not because Melia Cayo Santa Maria is closed we would have held the wedding there. Either way I am grateful for Maria Elena and her team.
