Halfway House during our stay

In May, my boyfriend, our dog and I stayed at the La Quinta by Wyndham Charlottesville-UVA Medical.
We noticed something was off right when we arrived to check in. During our entire stay, the entrance and the parking spaces on both sides of the building were huddled with people that seemed homeless. And there were moments the lobby was crowded as well, as the lobby was handing out free meals, to these people. There were times people just showed up in the lobby to get this food, a lot of times with no shoes and just with dirty, patchy and ripped clothing.
Additionally there were multiple very old sketchy vehicles where people seemed to huddle around like multiple people were living in these vehicles and just parked them there, including an old beat up van outside our room window (picture enclosed). We definitely did not feel safe most of the time while we were in our room.
When I addressed the issue with the front desk clerk, she responded by saying "oh this food is for a group staying here". She didn't say the group, but it was clear it was acting as a halfway house in some capacity in response to the current pandemic. While I think that is an admirable thing, I think the hotel has a responsibility in conveying that to potential patrons, as we did not get what were expecting and felt unsafe during our entire stay.
Additionally, it says UVA medical in the hotel title. It is nowhere near The UVA Medical Center. It is about 3.5 miles away from it. Lastly, when we checked in they told me there was a $40 fee per day for a dog, when it said there was no fee. They were kind enough to waive it (while saying under their breath, she needs to fix this too).
All the employees were nice and friendly during our stay so I hate writing this, but it's clear there is a misrepresentation problem.

Emily was very kind and knowledgeable of the area. She went above and beyond to make my stay perfect! It makes all the difference in the world when you are greeted by hotel staff that truly do want to make their guests stay pleasant!

Always a pleasant face, a good nights sleep, and a good breakfast. The rooms are very nice, clean with good amenities, and we enjoy our sleep on the beds. When we've brought our dog their very accommodating. The only issue was the plunger for the bathtub was stuck open, so it was showers only. No problem, showers work well and there were plenty of towels etc. Very close to UVA, where we visit our daughter, with shopping and good restaurants in close proximety. Downtown is only 5-10 minutes away.

This property was very clean and efficiently run. The staff was very helpful. The only problem I had with the property was the difficulty I had in determining where the entrance to the property was. Coming from the East, you actually had to pass the property and make a u-turn.

James was absolutely the best, he helped us with checking in and was wonderful when we came back to the hotel that night. Making sure we had everything we needed! I would definitely come back here and stay again. I will also tell my friends to and to ask for James! He was awesome! Thank you for a wonderful night.
