Great views but in much need of TLC

Everything about this hotel was great from the friendliness of the staff to the amazing views from the room. The suite that we checked into was nice a spacious but needed some TLC and better cleaning. The paint was falling off the walls which was very noticeable. There was also a party in the room prior to us checking in, which was evident by all the tape that was still on the wall. Again, when you are staying at a 4 Star hotel, you’d expect the room to be in much better condition.
It was okay!

The front desk staff was wonderful, but the rooms are not super clean. Our shower looked really dirty. The AC is off during winter and rooms were so hot. Other than that it was a good place located in a good area.
Better than I imagined

I loved this hotel. It quickly shot to the top of my Chicago hotel list, and we’ve stayed at a lot. It was much more upscale than I imagined. The lobby is fantastic with a lounge right in the middle. The front desk guy easily sold me on a $20 upgrade to a king room on the top floor. That room was excellent. It was very large. The on site restaurant/ bar was also excellent. Overall location was great. You know what, everything was great. I’d stay here again in a heartbeat.
Relaxing and Comfortable Stay

We visited Thanksgiving week and loved how festive the hotel was! Beautifully decorated for the holidays and the flannel-wearing employees made it feel like you were in a chalet. We booked a Gold room and it was perfect. A huge shout-out to Mandana, who was one of the hosts in the Gold lounge; she made us feel so welcome. Mandana is so personable, engaging, helpful and accommodating! Even on a gluten-free and non-dairy diet, the Gold lounge had plenty of food and snacks to fill our needs. We love the location next to Millennium Park and in a quieter section of downtown. This was our second visit here and we will definitely return! (If I could change one thing, though, I would move the Gold floor to a higher floor with better views...many of the Fairmonts I've visited have the Gold floor at or near the top floor.)
Dirty room. - see photos

We returned here having a very enjoyable trip in Nov 2019, and we were looking forward to staying there for Thanksgiving week 2021. Big mistake . We booked a deluxe room,. There is no other way to describe it, it was dirty and needed a good clean. Dirty grimy baseboards, stained bath tub, dirty tiles, stained duvet, stained towels. These were the clearly visible things, I don’t want to think about anything less visible. I took photos and went back to the front desk, the attendant was horrified and went to get a manager. The manager appeared and without looking at the photos was abrasive and dismissive. She curtly offered to move us, but I requested to be shown the room first as I was not hauling my family from room to room. I was shown to another room, first impression was not good as there was a large squashed bug smeared across the door. I went in, this room was a little cleaner than our assigned room, but still needed attention. I decided that, as an alternative room was going to need cleaned that we would stay in our assigned room and they could clean that. Please see attached photos. Please also take care when purchasing items from the to go area, I was given a pack of Miss Vickie’s chips which were best before Sept 2021, 8 weeks out of date. The food in the Columbus Tap restaurant was overpriced and mediocre, and served the same menu every day, no specials to mix it up a bit. The servers for the most part were pleasant. On a positive note they have done the foyer up beautifully for the holidays. If only they invested the same care and attention in the rooms.
