Great location and roomy

Reviewed 11 december, 2022

It was convenient to shops and we had a separate bedroom. Breakfast and coffee were average. Dishwasher did not work and dishes were dirty. Water at Kitchen sink was either warm or hot. Would not get cold. Air temp was about 75 and we could not get it cooler. Bathroom water for a time period was very hot only. Furniture needs to be replaced. Service staff was good.

Satisfactory

Reviewed 10 october, 2022

We just stayed here for 3 days. The rooms are efficiencies with full kitchen, separate suite area with couch , chairs , desk and TV, separate bedroom with a king bed and bathroom. Room smelled a little musty on arrival, but soon didn’t seem to notice it. My 3 stars is really based on the fact that it didn’t include maid service ( I had no idea) . Size wise it was great and comfortable. They told us on arrival also that heat wasn’t being put all the way up and we could request an extra blanket if cold . I thought that was a bit odd. Anyway it wasn’t s problem since we were experiencing a bit of a warm spell for Chicago in October. The room served our purpose and was satisfactory.

Problems with air conditioning, smell, and lying management

Reviewed 13 september, 2022

Very disappointed with our stay at this Sonesta property. The air conditioning in one of the rooms in our 2-room suite smelled strongly of mold. We asked to be moved our first night in the hotel and the front desk staff told us they would be in touch the next morning to arrange the move. They did not call us, so I went downstairs. The same guy from the night before seemed very flustered and asked if I would be willing to move to a room that they had left vacant for 3 days because the extended-stay guest that had checked out earlier in the week had left the room smelling. Since it was the smelly room or the moldy room, we took the smelly room. When the weather heated up a day later, we found out that the air conditioning wasn't working in that room either, and the entire room was damp. We told the front desk and they said they would send up an engineer while we were in the city for the day. We returned to the same inoperable air conditioning. We told this to the front desk, and they sent someone up again. This guy told me the maintenance crew had informed the hotel management that there were issues with the AC units (including needing new air filters), but that management wasn't addressing the problems and the filters were "on order." The air filter he removed from our unit was very dark and soaking wet. I expressed our displeasure and disappointment multiple times to the front desk during the stay. When we checked out and my wife and kids were in the car, the manager, Devin Moore, told me his "hands were tied" because we had prepaid through Travelocity. He gave me his business card and told me if I contacted Travelocity, he would approve a full refund for our stay. When we reached the next destination on our trip, I looked up the reservation and found that we had booked through Orbitz, not Travelocity, and we didn't prepay for our reservation, they charged our card when we checked out, moments before Mr. Moore told me we had prepaid. Additionally, Orbitz was unable to reach Mr. Moore to approve the refund. I followed up with two phone calls (left messages) and one email to Mr. Moore. None have been returned. I followed up twice with Orbitz, but he's not taking their calls either. Not only did this property fail to deliver on providing a clean and comfortable rooms, but the manager is a liar.

Lousy service

Reviewed 25 august, 2022

I had high hopes after all the positive reviews, but it turned out to be a disappointment. Apathetic desk staff and absent valet. I waited 30 minutes to get my car, and there was almost no one in the lobby or valet stand.

Large, Comfy Suites in a Perfect Location in Chicago

Reviewed 23 july, 2022

Chicago is one of my all-time favorite cities. I've stayed in several good hotels there, even a couple on the same street as this one but this was my first time to the Sonesta Suites . I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the room ( we got a King Suite-10th floor). The staff is friendly and even though it was very busy for the few days we were there, once up in the room- I found it to be very quiet. You may hear sporadic city noise from the streets below but it was no big deal. This isn't a fancy place but it's perfect for family or business travelers. The bedroom is large, the bed comfy and you get two large closets and a dresser. The kitchen provides everything you need-full size fridge, stove, microwave and includes plates, cups, untensils and misc items so that if you wanted to cook a full meal, you could easily do so. The storage in this room is also a huge plus- a large coat closet next to the door and plenty of cupboards in the kitchen. For families- this is a perfect set-up.  The bathroom is really two separate areas- the sink is outside of the toilet/shower. The large stall shower has fantastic water pressure and they provide body wash, shampoo and conditioner. I bring my own stuff so I didn't try it but my Husband liked the selection.  Housekeeping/Maid Service was not provided but all I wanted were clean towels daily- taken care of with a call down to the front desk. Same for ice - there are no ice machines. There are two TVs - one in the living room and one in the bedroom. The bedroom door closes fully so you can have solitude and quiet if you choose or have the freedom to watch a different show or let the kids have a Gaming room. The location is perfect for anything you may want to do in the city. You are only a couple of blocks from both Lake Michigan and the Magnificent Mile.  Overall, I really like this hotel and would recommend for anyone wanting a larger space for a reasonable price.
