Dirty, Dangerous and the worst example of Customer Service ever encountered

Reviewed 26 november, 2021

Stayed in the Self Catering Garden Suite which not only had major health and safety issues but was filthy. The kitchen freezer was being used by the main hotel kitchen as an overflow and open bags of food had been left in there. Floors , oven and work tops were filthy. All smoke alarms were rendered unusable due to batteries removed. Could go on and on however to make it worse when we complained we were told that they hadn’t time to help out..”too busy “ and suggest if we had so many issues we just left and found somewhere else. As ever COVID and the lady 12 months reared it’s ugly head. Despite giving the owners chance to speak to us and remedy the situation we have had no contact from anyone..leave..yes we did.

5* GUEST accomodation not hotel.

Reviewed 16 november, 2021

To start, the Lord Bute is not a five star hotel, it's a five star GUEST accomodation, which is very different. Looking up the requirements for star ratings, this is the equivalent of a TWO star hotel! Very very misleading, on Google and and hotel booking pages is listed as a Five star luxury hotel. Not sure where the luxury part comes in either as our room was very small and dated. The bed and pillows were incredibly uncomfortable, in the end I used a folded up jumper to sleep on. My wife and I were so disappointed as we had Two nights here. Avoid room 109 If you can, as this must be above a generator or something, very loud hum non stop. The restaurant is a two AA Rosette, so we were looking forward to trying this for breakfast. The choice was a full English or cereal. We asked for a vegetarian breakfast and that consisted of the full English with the meat removed leaving a plate of beans, egg and mushrooms. No meat replacements or other hot options on the menu. Again looking up the requirements for a rosette award this didn't even make one. On a positive, the evening meal staff were brilliant, they were very efficient, friendly and attentive. The evening meal was good for the meat eaters, the vegetarians not so much. There is a very nice pub/restaurant right next door that does lunch and evening menus, where we ended up going. It's concerning that a company can intentionally mislead people with false advertising and be allowed to get away with it. If you're looking for a 5* luxury hotel this isn't for you. But if you're looking for a 2* hotel at 5* star prices then this is the place for you.

A lovely break

Reviewed 10 november, 2021

We wanted a short break by the sea and this was perfect. We stayed in the Lord Bute Suite. It was warm and so comfortable. Luxurious shower and bathroom with lovely toiletries. Restaurant food in the evening was great. Staff were super helpful. A friendly and comfortable place to stay. Just a short walk from the beach and beautiful coastal walks.

Fantastic wedding reception

Reviewed 4 november, 2021

We held our wedding reception at Lord Bute and it was perfection. Christopher Denley helped us organise it and was so attentive on the actual night of. This venue is classy and stunning. It was also good value for money. The food is delicious - we've eaten here several times. The staff are polite and treat you like royalty. We will definitely be returning.

What a Gem

Reviewed 27 october, 2021

We travelled to Christchurch for a family funeral and booked into another hotel; along with other family members, for the night before. Although we planned to stay for 3 nights in all we discovered that our initial hotel only had availability for one night which meant looking for alternative accommodation for the other two. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise because what a gem we found in the Lord Bute. We ate in the Lord Bute restaurant after booking in, and invited two relations who were still staying at the original hotel to join us. The staff were so friendly and genuinely couldn’t do enough for us. We decided to make a dinner reservation on the second night and discovered that it was a Jazz Evening. Every table was occupied, with a few large groups who looked to be regulars, with everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves. Once again the food was excellent. I can genuinely say that the staff were fabulous; they were helpful, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Despite the fact that they were working flat out, they still had time to chat and make sure that we had everything we needed. We had a standard en suite which was everything we could have wished for, and more. Comfortable beds, fluffy towels and instant hot water. At breakfast on the first day we mentioned that we would like a rubber bath mat, and on returning to our room, there it was. We left feeling that we were part of the family, a very happy family; and I would have no hesitation in recommending the Lord Bute to anyone looking for a really special hotel in the Christchurch area.
