Great family outing!
We just went up for a few days to enjoy a new change of scenery. Suncadia did not disappoint! We got the one bedroom with the kitchen and with two young kids it was perfect. We felt safe and were able to successfully socially distant while there. The food was good, so many activities to enjoy (the heated pools are the best) and the drinks were strong - no complaints!
Winter retreat
We really enjoyed the hotel and it was well setup to keep guests and staff safe from Covid. We really enjoyed tubing and swimming in the snow, though the current reservation system requires you to be diligent and quick on the mouse button if you want to attend activities. I feel as though you are paying a premium for access to those activities but you may not be able to book them, so it may be less of a value now than in normal times. Rooms are spacious, nice and quiet. In the end though, we love the lodge, love the area, especially in the winter, and will be back.
I don’t recommend the Suncadia Lodge!
I had to wait 6 hours to get a replacement comforter because the one in the room had a big stain! The front desk told us they might not be able to give us a comforter for that night since they don’t have any extra!!!
Great experience even during COVID
Family trip of 4. Two daughters four and six with my husband and myself being 7 months pregnant. absolutely phenomenal amenities. However you do need to book ahead of time to make sure you get a reservation. This resort is open during these tough times because they take their restrictions serious. The room was definitely not up to expectations, when I opened the bed sheet there were other people's hair. However the checkout experience and being heard was phenomenal and it made it all the better. I absolutely think it's five stars because their customer service is top-notch. They're amenities are phenomenal we went to being, snow dyeing, we went to the winery restaurant, we went to Portals, the swimming pools are open during the winter and we're phenomenal. if you're going for the water slides they're only open on the weekends. And I tell you the weekends are super busy. We did find a flea in the towel at the pool and fitness center. They took care of it right away and we're extremely apologetic and brought me a new towel right away. I'm guessing during the weeks they just aren't as busy as the weekends. I know it doesn't sound like a five star review but it surely is. Make sure to get reservations for as many days as you want, there was only one room available the day we checked out and it was triple the money. We very much would have spent a third night.
Too many problems for a destination getaway
Positives • The view is stunning, the aesthetic of the hotel is a real plus. • The rooms are beautiful. We had a fireplace and even the smaller rooms have a lovely aesthetic and are quiet. • Staff were friendly and professional • Midweek rate was excellent • Welcome email when we made the reservation provided options for winter activities to be reserved in advance and offered ice skating, tubing, snowshoeing/cross country skiing. All nice touches. • Staff kept walking trails clear, even in the middle of a snowstorm • COVID-19 protocols were well-established and enforced respectfully, which is greatly appreciated. Problems • We had persistent problems with WiFi, mainly in the room. We asked for help around 5p on our one night at Suncadia. We texted (a nice feature,) called the front desk, and even raised the issue with the engineer who delivered a replacement TV remote, which should've been QC tested before guests arrive. Over 90 minutes later, we were told that IT had left for the night and our connectivity issues were top priority the next morning. IT never contacted us. Nobody did, in fact. • Also, I must have missed the map that would've made clear that the main fitness and pool facility is a five minute outdoor walk to reach, which isn't ideal during the winter. Perhaps it's my mistake for not asking, but I simply assumed that this amenity would be on-site. • Shower water flow is TOO restrictive. A shower head with more flow options would address this, even while conserving water, which we applaud. • Lighting in the bathroom was poor and a dimmer switch and more powerful bulbs near the mirror would've addressed that. • Housekeeping missed detritus from other guests. There was a large, locked cabinet in our room and no key to access the mini-bar, assuming that's what that was. Front desk staff waived our incidentals, which included a $20 movie (since wifi was not working,) which was appreciated. Still, we would have preferred the near-flawless experience we signed up for from a hotel that's part of a chain titled "Destination Hotels", and frankly, didn't receive. Had things worked out better, the value was there, but there were simply too many failings of design and execution to recommend Suncadia for a getaway. I'll stay there for business, provided they get their IT act together - they didn't even try to reset the wifi remotely. I can't recommend Suncadia for a couples getaway.
