Really a great choice for Clearwater Beach

Reviewed 15 january, 2022

We stayed 3 nights mid-week, and really had a great experience. My search criteria was 1. Beachfront location 2. Clearwater beach 3. Fit in my budget. When you get to looking, there’s not many beachfront hotels in Clearwater. Facing the intracoastal waterway does not count as beachfront to me. I wanted “real” beachfront, which the Sheraton fulfills ! Clearwater Beach is split in two parts, and the hotel is located on the southern side of the split. I would MUCH prefer to stay on this side. It seems quieter, nicer, more residential. Most of the beachfront buildings are condo high rises, I think the Sheraton is one of the few hotels located on this part of the beach. The north side is much busier - many hotels, motels, and restaurants on the other side. It’s an easy drive over the bridge to get there. There’s also a nice nature preserve type thing next door, with walking trails and other outdoor things. free parking and no resort fee are biggies. Very appreciated. Many reviews have complained that the hotel is outdated. I think that’s unfairly critical. It’s not all white grey and black modern of 2022, but it’s got a tropical beachy vibe with warm colors, I think it’s perfectly fine. The bed was plenty comfortable, and the pillows were good. The loungers on the waterfront are $35 day, but they seat 2 and have a nice “tent” cover. If you don’t want full sun, the tent is wonderful. And the loungers are padded. We had takeout one night from Rusty’s, and it was good. We didn’t try the more casual restaurant, but it was busy every night. The pool bar drinks were great, and I thought the prices were reasonable. All of the employees we encountered were really nice and helpful. No bad encounters, truly. In my opinion, the best views are rooms overlooking the pool area. Our room overlooked the tennis courts. It was fine, but it’s the more shaded side of the building, so I think the rooms get less light. The rooms facing the front probably get a lot of light. But overlooking the parking lot. The pool is heated, so it’s enjoyable even in cool weather, and the hot tub is large and hot. The pool deck is a delight. We got coffee in the sundry shop and sat by the pool every morning. A nice way to start the day.

Hit or miss

I have stayed at this hotel several times, sometimes staff service it's great sometimes is subpar , however this last visit my experience wasn't so pleasant, I wanted to share that the service at the breakfast was horrible. Our waitress, Vivian, was not friendly and seemed bothered most of the time. She didn't check if we needed anything, she didn't ask if we needed any refills on our drinks, didn't ask how the food was , or even offered if we wanted ketchup, hot sauce, etc ... which is only basics. Hopefully the next time i visit, this will get resolved .

Willie from Breakfast Buffet

My college swim team came here from New Jersey and each morning, Willie has served us with kindness and humor. He made us feel welcome and was very nice to the team. He is a great guy! Thank you Willie!

NYE at Sand Key Marriott

Reviewed 10 january, 2022

This resort is a bit dated and full of families. The property is quite beautiful with an enjoyable (though a slightly small) pool, a good pool bar and cafe that is open for very limited hours. The beach, though, is AMAZING. Definitely the gem of the place. Cydney provided fantastic service when we arrived in the morning. Not only did she get us into a room, she upgraded us to a nicer one. And when we got ‘stuck’ one extra day due to a cancelled flight, she figured out how to keep us in the same room and helped us get a reservation for one additional night. Cydney’s service definitely made the stay that much more enjoyable!

Despite Construction a Good Stay

Reviewed 9 january, 2022

I must say I was surprised when I got there and noticed they were doing construction. It was a bit disruptive but it did not ruin my visit. I just wish they would have notified me when I was booking the hotel. Room Somewhat dated but exceptionally cleaned. I had two queen beds and a table. The air conditioned worked great. The bathroom was a little small but the shower always had hot water. I requested a roll out which they provided. The TV had many channels and we rented movies for the kids. The cleaning staff was very friendly and helpful. I utilized dry cleaning service and it came back on time. Staff The Staff in every area seemed very happy to be there. I interacted with bell man, room service, front desk staff, retail store staff, convivence store staff, Rustys, Tavern, cabana rentals, towel service, pool restaurant, and pool bar. Everyone was incredibly helpful and nice. Drinks I got mixed drinks at the bar outside and inside. The drinks were poured well and the tropical frozen drinks were great. I train a lot of Pina Coladas while I was there. Food The Tavern has an amazing grouper sandwich. I am a Florida native and if it was fake grouper I could not tell. Rustys has amazing crab cakes and filet mignon. The pool side restaurant was good but a bit heavy on the salad dressings. Pool and Beach The pool staff was great at the towels section and the bar. They had tons of goggles, floats, and beach toys for the kids. Stores They have an onsite convenience store that has lots of drug store items, food, and booze. They also had a beach store and I snagged another swimsuit for my kids. Summary My kids wanted to stay another week. I thought the staff made me feel at home. I thought it was a really chill place and was definitely my vibe. It was about enjoyment and not looking posh with overpriced things. It was an incredibly functional and self contained hotel. If you are looking to be in action I would not stay here. If you want a break from craziness of day to day life I highly recommend it.
