Fantastic hotel in ALL ways. Exceeded expectations! Great food. Beautiful pool. Lovely gardens. Comfortable rooms.

I would highly recommend this hotel for all things: Staff, food, rooms, grounds, location, parking. It was fairly easy to find. There is some road construction nearby but you can navigate around it. You can walk into the old city and meet the free tour at the base of the old city.

Charming property with an interesting history

Reviewed 3 september, 2022

The highlight for me was the garden and the exterior of the hotel. The internal spaces need renovation and although they had some charm looked dated and tired. My room was a 'renovated spa room'. It was comfortable but devoid of charm or character. Its was neither a modern renovation nor a character filled attempt to rekindle the old charm of the property. No problems- bed was good, everything worked, we had a balcony overlooking the car park with views of the town. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good with the option of outdoor tables in the garden. The restaurant/breakfast area was OK but I expect something lovely, more in keeping with the facade of the hotel. Definitely not 5 star but worth a visit.

Nice Hotel

Room 3 is bad so we are able to change to other room! The management need to give a good adjustment on the lower level room rate ?! I mean who would prefer to stay in lower ground level when they are paying 300+ euro? The garden is not a really a private garden & need to beautify it! Other than that everything is perfect in this hotel including all the attentive services !

Impressive and Highly Charming hotel for a Pleasant stay

Reviewed 15 august, 2022

Lovely surroundings, the hotel´s outstanding characteristic, oozing luxury and tranquillity. Most of all its superb historic main building, lavishly decorated, majestic wood finishings, vast array of delightful lounges and reception rooms. The extensive park is also very impressive. The modern extension fits in alright. However, it is a bit too remote for dining elsewhere in the evening, without driving. On the other hand, is easy to get to and from by car. Parking lot is big enough, some more shade would be welcome. My Deluxe room, upstairs, at the rear of the main building´s first floor, was charming, comfortable, with plenty of windows. One could list a number of inconveniences and sub-standard features, but nothing too important or that one cannot get used to. In the end, I was pleased with my room. Breakfast is good quality, but some more choice would better fit in with the hotel´s overall standing. The relatively banal room is also out of tune. One has to book, a bit of a bother. The Arcadas evening restaurant is only so-so. Very clean. Excellent welcome. Hotels in Portugal are expensive. So in an international context, the Lagrimas only offers average value for money. Return? I would try elsewhere if there was more choice in the area, but there is not.

Great restaurant. Mediocre accommodations. Nice service

Reviewed 7 august, 2022

The grounds are beautiful and service was great. The hotel itself was very dated. Old carpet, old building- good bones. The food at the restaurant was terrific and nice breakfast. Just all very dated. Needs renovation. We originally had a ‘renovated spa room’ booked. The bathroom was the only thing renovated and it was in some very distant part of hotel past hallways and thru so many doors. We changed to a room in the main hotel with a step in shower.
