Excellent budget hotel

I paid €94.20 (including city tax) for three nights in a single room with private facilities in mid-August. Guess what, I didn't expect a 5-star hotel in the centre! I expected the rabbit-hutch size of the room and 10 minutes by U-bahn to the centre. Fine by me. I was favourably impressed by the hair drier and fan in the bathroom, the TV in my room, the modern decoration, the spotless cleanliness, and the extremely friendly and helpful attitude of the owners. Good, free WiFi. Excellent value for money and I would definitely return.
Absolutely NO GO

I have made the following experience with this hotel. I asked for some terms, payed the whole amont ( ca 600 Euros ) for the accomodation, then one month before my terms it turned out I will not need to travel to Cologne. I asked at the hotel what if I would cancel, whether they would pay some of my money back. I heard from them no I can get no cents back. So ok I told them in this case I would not cancel anything, maybe me or my son would travel to Cologne and use the room. So no stornos from my side. It was not accepted. I got a message from them I will get no money back at all and they have canceled my reservations. Basta. I was asked not to write them any further mails, it wont be answered. In my eyes it is a theft. Nothing else. I need a lawyer now. So much about the the owner of this hotel.
Horrible Hotel!!! not worth the money! stay away!

I took this hotel for a business trip for 3 nights. First of all the only good thing about the hotel that there is a metro station next to it, that is it. The hotel is located on a very busy street with nothing interesting to see. All the stores are middle eastern so looking for german culture....there isn't anything, only turkish. There is no elevator in the hotel so if you have a room on the top floor, good luck. the stars are small so be careful. The room smelled like a sweaty old man, i sprayed perfume to get the smell out but it didnt work. The room was tiny and so was the bathroom. At least it was kinda clean. I brought a towel from home because i read pervious reviews, thank god i did. There was no hot water to shower after my flight so i ran the water in the sink till finally hot water came out. They barely speak english in the hotel at all so when i asked if there is any good places to see in the area no one could tell me. The beds are worst then the ones i had in the college dorms. The matterace is thin like paper so it will kill your back. The pillowes smelled horrible. They were spiders and bugs always in the bathroom. The walls are thin so you hear everything that is going on in the hotel. One French guy was watching a movie in his room and i heard the whole movie, i was the building a cross from him. Breakfast is a joke, they don't have eggs and barely any vegetables. All there was cereal and lucky coffee. All the rest look horrible to eat. Not worth the price i paid, i could have added a little more and i would have had a hotel with hot water to shower in. don't recommend to anyone at all.
Just not good

Hotel is cheap for one night, but now i know why. the location is ok, the hotel itself is not. out room was a family room, it was large, bed was comfy for one nights sleep. the bathroom at first looked like it was good, until reused the toilet or sink, when we flushed the toilet, water with faeces came up into the shower tray from the plughole, it left a terrible smell in the room and blocked the shower. The aftermath mess would then be left in the shower tray which needed rinsing away, this wasn't the end of the problem, after we started to have a shower, the blockage in the pipes, also caused the water to rise back up the pipes into the shower tray whilst showering, so without being graphic, you would be standing in not so desirable water
Very basic and budget hotel, but the stuff is indifferent to the full insecure in their hotel.

Dear Fellow Travellers, I am writing this Hotel review to warn others of a particularly nasty experience I had at the KOENIG HOTEL Kalker Hauptstrasse 233 Kalk 51103 Cologne, tel. 0049 221 80262727 3 rooms were booked by my company for myself and 2 colleagues. The rooms themselves were very basic, but adequate for our needs for the short stay of 3 nights. We conducted our business in the city and had to check out very early on the morning of the 15th September as we had to catch early flights from Dusseldorf Airport to the USA. It was only on the way to the airport i looked inside the inner pocket of my Rucksack and found that all my money was missing. The day before i had put my money in the inner Zipped pocket so it was only possible to remove it from there while my bag was in the room. The hotel was contacted and it was reported that the money had been taken from my bag. The response from the hotel was really appalling, there could not give a damn attitude left me very disappointed indeed, I did not expect a person to enter my room and go through my belongings while I was out and steal from me. This has most certainly made me wiser and I want to warn fellow travellers about this hotel. There is definitely a thief working there so if you are unfortunate enough to be staying there LOCK all your belongings up and CHECK everything is there before you leave the hotel. I and my company will never be using this Hotel again.
