Great value for the money

I've now stayed at this Howard Johnson's twice. I was initially concerned by the very mixed and some highly negative reviews, but decided to give it a shot. I was happily surprised by the quality of my room both times now: large, comfortable. Are the furnishings a bit old? Sure, but this is an old but very well maintained property. I plan to stay here for all my future trips to this area.
Good place, to rest for a night or two

Nothing overly fancy, out of this world luxurious. The price range, is decent, and A good place to rest for a few nights. During the summer season, the swimming pool is refreshing, and relaxing. Nearby fast food places, and a great place to stay, when visiting Albany medical center. The staff are super friendly, and go above and beyond to accommodate.
Never again! Please read all!

I posted 2 earlier reviews of this hotel over the past 3 years, but I had to delete them because I don't feel the same way about them anymore. Such a shame. I stayed there regularly, once a month or every other month as my daughter attends college nearby. She still has another year to go, but I will be staying elsewhere from now on. The bud has come off the rose. Things were great for awhile, & the beds are very comfortable. It's a budget hotel, & I know what services I should be getting here. It was clean enough, & the breakfast was good enough. Baked goods, bagels, cereals, waffle mix, hard boiled eggs & sausage. Since the pandemic started, they really went downhill. I know everyone is suffering now, but this is ridiculous. Breakfast is now only old cold cereal & waffle mix, that is missing half the time. If I comment about it, I get an attitude, like with everything else. Esp from the woman in charge & the evening manager. She said the locals steal the food. I think it's an excuse. I guess I'm not the only one who complained because she has an answer for everything. Very ungrateful & always try to shut me up. Try. & even in the breakfast area, the wallpaper is peeling & there are holes in the walls. Instead of that, why not give a to go breakfast bag like other hotels in that price range do? One for each guest kept at the front desk? She said I should give business to the local eateries. I specifically picked this hotel because it had breakfast & a good bed & the reputation of a Hojo. She isn't giving them a good reputation. & I will give business to local businesses by frequenting other hotels instead. I come with my whole family sometimes, & get 2 rooms for 2 nights at a clip. She's made a lot of $ off of me. No more. They can't even check the reservation notes to see that I request adjoining rooms so my kids can be near me until the morning of my arrival. Apparently, that's too difficult to do because they already gave the room away on several occasions. Maybe it is since the fired some staff after the pandemic started. I have also been noticing the rooms are less clean, & definitely haven't been updated in a very long time. As an example, the bathtub & the corners in the bathroom & in the room are filthy. The last time I stayed, the room smelled like mushrooms when I turned on the heater, which was all wet from condensation. I hope none of us don't get mold spores & get sick. & my room wasn't refreshed after the 1st night. When she sent the housekeeper, he was arguing with my outside my room, saying I lied that I didn't want service. I always want my bed made, fresh towels & shampoo, even more than 3 tissues in the tissue box! They are so cheap there! & rude! & jaded against everyone, even those who don't deserve it, just because they want decent service when they're traveling. & I'm entitled to late checkout as a rewards member, & she tries to deny me that sometimes. I can smell other guests smoking weed through the bathroom vent. & they set the clocks fast so you'll leave sooner. I will not tolerate that treatment any longer, if I'm the one paying! There are too many other better options in the area! Hojo is known for hospitality & quality, this hotel is very far from that. Less than the minimum. I can't believe Wyndham lets them stay on as a property.
Nice place to stay

This was a nice play to stay. The hotel room was spacious and nicely furnished, including a sofa. The room was very comfortable and quiet. The garden and yard was very pleasant, The room and breakfast area were clean. As a woman traveling alone, I felt very safe. I would stay here again.
Do Not Judge by the Exterior!

An old-fashioned style motel - low profile, simple rooms, limited electrical outlets. Central garden/pool area is pleasant, and the parking areas are huge. Possibly a 1960's building which has been nicely updated. Neat and clean and comfortable. Indian restaurant next door is convenient after a long day of travel.
