Check for bed bugs

Opinión escrita el 12 de enero de 2023

I slept 1.5 nights here, and left on the second night when I felt something crawling on my leg. I checked under the mattress, and sure enough found about 15 bed bugs clustered together. I checked out at 12:30 am. The front desk and manager handled this professionally by fully refunding my stay, and they said pest control was on site the following afternoon. I’d still recommend checking for bugs after researching how these things can spread. I have stayed at hundreds of IHG hotels, and this is the first time I’ve encountered bed bugs. I always inspect upon entering the room, but missed them this time. I now have bites all over my body, and have to decontaminate my luggage, clothing, shoes, etc. Bringing bed bugs into my home is one of my biggest fears. Other annoyances include no shampoo in the bathroom, and they were not able to get my thermostat working. The positives were the professional response from management.

Terrible Customer Service

Opinión escrita el 7 de octubre de 2022

No free breakfast. Small computer room with two computers, and a door was not very safe when using with another guest. Being charged twice, when I was told they settled my bill when I checked out. Instead of apologizing for the mistake they blamed me. SUPER RUDE STAFF.

Room was good. Staff was nice. One of the best stays we had recently with the exception of the complaint we received about making too much noise. There were two of us in the room, AC on, loud traffic noise outside, football game on and at 8 pm on Saturday night they said we were making too much noise. I wasn't even cheering for my team. Columbus GA must be a quiet city. They need to check the supplies in the rooms. Only 1 fork, spoon and knife so dinner for two not possible unless you bring your own. Would stay there again and definitely recommend.

Good location, could be cleaner

Opinión escrita el 30 de julio de 2022

Overall I was not overly impressed. Decent safe location which is a big plus for Columbus. There is no breakfast offered which I thought was a little strange for an IHG property of this type. The room itself was very nice and what you’d expect from a Candlewood Suites. The cleanliness was another issue. For being “cleaned and sanitized” or whatever today’s buzzword is, it’s disgusting finding a used bandaid in the shower. Majority of the staff I interacted with were fantastic but whoever was at check in when I came in probably needs some customer service training but I understand it’s pretty hard to keep anyone now.

Allegedly the world’s most rude manager and worst 5 year old “new” hotel.

Opinión escrita el 4 de decembre de 2020

We arrived in order to assist an Army Vietnam War Veteran in the hospital near Ft. Benning. We are loyal spire platinum IHG members and first responders. We always give tips and chocolate to hotel staffs including to the manager here at check-in. However, the treatment we received was appalling . We couldn’t make this up. We have photos. Check our past record. At scores of HIE Properties worldwide , managers beg for our return. We’re humble. Quiet. Non-smokers. No pets . No kids in tow. A hotelier’s dream. Briefly the allegations are : ( 1). The website describes the hotel as “beautiful and brand new”. Brand new my foot. Employees report that it is over five years old. Is a five year old car brand new ? In person, this hotel seems much older. This hotel is insect infested, wall /ceiling stained ,carpet damaged, watermarked, scuffed, and foul smelling. (2). The Manager is the rudest manager I’ve ever encountered . Anywhere. In any industry. Fifty years ago, I enjoyed working in a Holiday Inn. What happened here ? I’ve actually never argued with a hotel manager until now. Never needed to argue. This so called Manager has no concept of customer service , repeat business, and loyal customers. She runs a prison, not a hotel. For example, I asked for one extra sheet. One sheet. She pitched a fit. Stomped on the floor and said I could not have an extra sheet. She acted as if she were in kindergarten. I asked why. She said in front of my witness that an extra sheet is not allowed. What ? At first I thought she was joking. I patiently explained to her that we spend tens of thousands at IHG and asking for an extra sheet was not unreasonable. I get an extra sheet at every IHG .Not here, she said. It was bizarre. I ended up having to bribe a housekeeper to get one extra sheet in a billion dollar hotel chain. Shame on you, Columbus Candlewood. An omen of what was to follow. (3). There is an overwhelming stench on the second and third floor. Mildew ? Dog urine ? Gas leak ? It stinks to high heaven. We placed towels under the room door to keep the stench out. ( 4). Our tv was defective ; it kept fading in and out. I asked for a replacement . The manager said no. She stated that she didn’t didn’t have time for us because her shift was over in fifteen minutes. Sure enough , fifteen minutes later she exited without calling maintenance to switch the tv for us. The hotel was half empty. I offered to help. Check the security tapes. She “could do nothing about it”. We were incredulous. ( 5). On the second day, ants began to crawl out of the electrical socket. Tens of thousands of them. They bit us. They spread everywhere. Front desk said quote, “the building was built on an ancient ant farm, and the whole building was infested with ants”. Great. Why isn’t this on the website ? While the hotel may not be new, the ants were quite young and aggressive. If they were any bigger you could call them elephants. Instead of calling an exterminator, the front desk gave us ant poison and asked us to spray it ourselves. What ? We did. Ants returned two days later by the thousands. They also began to crawl out of the bath exhaust ceiling fan. When doing my laundry, I noticed ants crawling in my wash. Gross. Security tapes will confirm me trying to flick them out of my shirts. Again, we have photos. ( 6). Just before the sacred Auburn- Alabama football game a water pipe burst on the ground floor. Again, we couldn’t make this up. For much of Saturday afternoon, we had no water of any kind. Sunday and Monday we had water that was cold or luke warm at best. Fire exit was blocked during all this in order to pump water out of the hall. ( 7). Disgusted with no hot water, shivering cold water, ants , ant bites, blocked fire escape, broken tv , noxious fumes, and rude management, we gave up and checked out early. (8). As a final insult on the way out.....THE LADY AT THE FRONT DESK CHECKING US OUT , NEVER WORE A MASK. Check the security tapes. She never put her mask on for the twenty minutes or so while I carted luggage at 5:30 am. She handed me my bill without a mask. We burned it. The wife is a surgical nurse. She couldn’t believe it because 3000 Americans died yesterday alone from COVID. Did they care ? Apparently not. Actions speak louder than words . We locked our car doors. Crossed ourselves. And sped away from this hell on earth....BOTTOM LINE: WE LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM AN IHG CASE MANAGER , NOT THE LOCAL MANAGER, FOR A FULL REFUND. Anything less will result in litigation.
