Glad we switched
I was tasked with booking accomodations for a trip that included 10 family members. While I normally check reviews first, I went for a deal. Luckily, we were able to get out of a "deal" at another hotel, where we would have been miserable. Luckily this Holiday Inn Express was nearby, and I am glad that we spent a little extra for cleanliness, modern accommodations, and a great breakfast. It's worth spending a little extra for a Holiday Inn Express.
More than disappointed.
Two weeks ago, we had a room reserved at the hotel across the street, but it was so bad, we walked right back out and tried HI Express. It was very late and decided to stay, even though the room had not been cleaned thoroughly -- e.g. food in fridge and on dresser. Asked to have the room cleaned, while we were sightseeing, the next day. Not done upon return. (Even after the front desk emphasized doing "whatever it takes to get the room clean".) And we decided to stay even with the exorbitant price. I know we didn't have a reservation, but it was still way too expensive, given the service and the terrible neighborhood it is in. We will be MUCH more cautious about HI in the future.
A One-Off Experience!
Never before in all my years of traveling have I had an experience like my recent stay at this property. This Holiday Inn Express is about 5 minutes from Corpus Christi Downtown, in a bit of an Industrial area. We've stayed here several times and it's a nice, very clean property. We like this location because it's not in the middle of all the traffic, and not next to the beach (more traffic and higher prices). It also has freeway access which makes getting around town an absolute snap. When my wife and I pulled into the parking lot we were a little concerned that the property was closed for some reason. There wasn't a single car in sight. So very odd. We pulled under the canopy and saw the lights were indeed on, so we walked inside. A very nice young man "Chris" greeted us and checked us in. We asked Chris why the parking lot was empty? He explained to us that the hotel "had no guests" today. LOL, he must have seen the concern on our faces and soothed our nerves by explaining that the day after Thanksgiving is a traditionally slow day at this property. Calmed by these words we headed up to our room. Turns out we had been upgraded to a larger, corner room. Really appreciated that too. Over the next two days, we came to feel spoiled like we've never experienced. Instead of property staff appearing bored and lifeless, they made every effort to treat us well and make us feel at home. We came to know the Manager "Lydia" and the lady that runs the breakfast buffet (which by the way was in full swing despite only the two of us eating). They all took care of us, and helped answer all our questions about where to go and what to do. I've just never, ever felt so comfortable and at home in a hotel. I didn't think it was possible to feel this way. Kudos to every single member of this team. It boggles my mind that you would be so professional, given the empty property. We never saw a single shortcut taken. My wife and I had the full Holiday Inn Express treatment, and a little extra to boot. I'm humbled to know that these good people took our comfort so seriously. I really believe that they are a credit to the entire Holiday Inn Express brand, and should all be awarded for their obvious professionalism and commitment to customer service. Every traveler should experience staff like this. I can't say enough nice things about them.

I received confirmation email that quoted a room charge almost $100 more than I've been quoted and paid in past. Front desk hotel clerk preposterously informed me that I was in error and that the price quoted me was correct. I'm quite certain this clerk knew this to be incorrect. I canceled reservation and went to another hotel where the WI FI works and am not being played. The WI FI at this hotel is intermittent at best.
Nasty place
We stayed here last week for one night. Upon check in things were going well, until we could not make entry into our room. We tried multiple times and so did the front desk staff. We were told the lock was broken and “upgraded” to a suite. I had two children that were very hungry so when we finally got into a room we were starving and I did not look around. When we got back I noticed long black hair everywhere! The shower head sprayed everywhere and it has apparently been like that for awhile because of the water stains on the bathroom floor. The carpet was the absolute worse I have ever seen. Our feet were black from walking on it. It was sticky and oily. The only really good thing was it was quiet and the breakfast was pretty good. This place needs deep cleaning and some renovations.
