Unique and Fun Night

Stayed here for one night to go to a Quad Cities River Bandits game. Close enough to walk to Modern Woodmen Park, which I enjoy doing. We had a Junior Executive Suite, Suite, 1 King, Sofa bed room. A little cramped with the sofa bed out, but otherwise fine for the three of us. Enjoyed the building and the art and the uniqueness of the hotel. The room was clean. The internet worked well. I normally wouldn't talk about the bathroom, but the mirror with the television and the toilet/bidet combination were extra touches that made the room even more unique than your typical hotel room. The rooftop bar is a great space with great views. It was a great place for breakfast. I'm not a big fan of having to pay for parking, but the lot across the street had plenty of parking.

Fantastic find. Downtown location one block from the Mississippi. Great Italian restaurant around the corner! Now the hotel! Quirky. Funky. Full of artwork. Has all the gadgets in your room, even a bidet. Clean sparkling classy environment. Comfy beds and pillows. Wonderful shower and spacious bathroom. Large rooms. Quiet. Rooftop bar and restaurant for breakfast . Attentive staff. Parking across the street. We would definitely stay here again!!!!
Beautiful Hotel, but staff needs training

This hotel is beautiful. The rooms are huge and updated to perfection. Centrally located and walkable to bars, restaurants and art museum. It is priced a bit high but seemed to be worth it, at first. Downs of this place started at check in, tried to say we had to pay for parking, $12. Or park on the street but that would have involved moving the car at 7:00 am. I was fairly sure the website said free parking but could not search my reservation on my phone very well. So parked in the paid parking, went up to our room. Checked my reservation, it said free parking. Called the front desk, he said he would check with the manager. Called a few minutes later, I had to bring down my reservation so he could see I had free parking. A pain in the butt. Why on earth he couldn’t look at my reservation and see I had free parking. Took it down to the lobby, yup I had free parking and he said he would take it off my bill. We went to the rooftop bar, it took us a long time to get served, despite 3 servers. Others also were frustrated at the wait time. Prosecco came in plastic wine glass. Beer was just the bottle. For a high end place like this one you would expect real glasses. Had to ask for a glass, again plastic and it took some time to get it. Got our bill and the waitress asked my husband to tuck it under her armpit because her hands were full. We were in no hurry, it just seemed unprofessional and awkward. Breakfast was great and service was perfect. We checked our credit card a day later and saw a charge for the Blackhawk Hotel which is 4 blocks away and for $100 over our own bill. Didn’t know what to think about that as we had no association with the Blackhawk Hotel. Called the credit card company and they put a “watch” on our account in case someone was doing something fraudulent. Next day check again, still said Blackhawk Hotel but the extra $100 was gone. I know hotels can put a hold on an account until you check out and then back off the charge but have never seen one this big. Turned out fine, but so many things were an issue at this place that I would not bother going there again. It has the potential to be a 5 star rating, but the staff needs some training in order to make it a perfect 5.
Fun and quirky, but not perfect

This hotel has a great location, wonderful staff, and some very unique features. When we stayed here 2 years ago and were in a corner suite and there were no Covid-19 restrictions, we thought this was one of our favorite hotels. It still has the marvelous UP Sky Bar and I wrote a separate review of that. There is wonderful artwork everywhere. The property is impeccably clean, both in and out of the guest room. The bathroom has an automated toilet with some unique features, plus a tv inside the mirror. The shower area needs safety handrails. Due to Covid-19 precautions, some services have not yet reopened. But our biggest issue was as a result of the Marriott suite upgrade procedure suggesting requesting every type of upgrade even if one should not apply. We received an apartment suite, which is very functional, but not appealing. It includes a full kitchen and a washer and dryer, and work area, but a window that faces a wall and an alley (see photo). It is dark and depressing staying on the second floor. If you are here on an extended stay, bring some paper plates and plastic utensils. All that said, we will certainly consider staying here again when the pandemic is history and we are more selective of our room choices.

This is a unique design- and the whimsical art throughout the property is amazing! Each room is unique and well appointed. There is a book in the room talking about the various artists who are local or Midwest based. The rooms are huge- and if you get a room by the elevator- don’t stress. I’m a high maintenance traveler who was mildly perturbed by my room location. Not once did I hear people or that annoying ding. There is a noise machine to use at night as a train occasionally comes by. Being from dubuque- we are used to it. Food is phenomenal and reasonable. But the service throughout the hotel is A+! Shout out to Rikki the server and Douglas the chef who helped her run food as we had a party of 12! Rikki was alone at the Sky Bar and he jumped in. The French toast. Forget the calories and carbs.. just eat it. I can’t complain about a single thing... and I usually can. My 2 nights here were great. Thank you so much!
