Called the police on the manager who tried breaking into our room!
Opinión escrita el 28 de Agosto de 2021
I needed a police escort to protect my children and me from the manager who tried breaking into our room after I called the corporate office to complain that they wouldn't honor the price on my reservation.
I booked my room online for my family of 4 from the Choice Hotels website. At the time, the only room available that would fit us was a king suite with a rollaway bed. The website gave me the option to add a rollaway bed for $10 extra per night. I selected that option, which increased my room rate by $10/night. When I arrived at the hotel, the lady at the desk said that they don't have rollaway beds. I explained that my rate included the bed, and that if they didn't have them, that my rate needed to be adjusted. She then said that because the room I booked only slept 3 people, that we didn't fit and she found a room with 2 queens but it cost more. She said she would talk to her manager about reducing the price to my reservation quote. You can clearly see in the screenshot below from Sleep Inn's website that the room I booked (King Suite) can sleep 4 (or 5 with a rollaway) and that the rollaway was an extra $10/night. Again, she insisted that there were no rollaways, I could not have reserved one, and that the room I booked only slept three people.
After we returned from dinner, the manager said that he could not adjust my price because I was now in a more expensive room. I stated that Sleep Inn messed up my reservation and that I should not have to pay more for their error. I told him that I would be calling the corporate office if he could not honor my reservation price. As soon as I said that, he told me that I could check out in the morning. I told him I wasn't checking out in the morning (we evacuated from a hurricane and had no place else to go), and he said he would cancel my reservation and call the police if I didn't leave.
As soon as I got to my room, I called the corporate office to file a formal complaint. While I was on the phone, he started jiggling the doorknob to enter our room. Then he tried calling the room phone and my cell phone. My youngest child started crying because he was so scared. The corporate office said he did indeed cancel my reservation, essentially kicking us out because we filed a complaint when they would not honor the price on my reservation. Luckily, corporate was able to find us a room at another hotel for the night and I booked the remainder of my stay at a non-Choice Hotel (the first time in over 10 years I haven't stayed at a Choice Hotels brand). We called the Dothan Police Department to send an officer to escort me and my children out of the hotel because we were afraid at what he might do.

My husband and I stayed at the Sleep Inn for two nights and we’re 100% satisfied with the room and the breakfast bar. It was the only motel in our almost month road trip that served a decent breakfast. We would not hesitate to stay here again.
The culmination of your worst life choices

The lobby smells like Pizza Hut, which sadly is not in the hotel but adjacent. It might be okay if the smell didn’t then morph to add an air of musty feet in the elevator and old crusty vegetable soup in the hallway. But still- none of this prepares you for the room. It smells like a lilac air freshener exploded in there… in an attempt to cover up what can only be described as a dirty bar smell from your twenties: smoke and fermented fruit. It is beyond cloying, it will choke you the minute you open the door. The sheets are made out of some kind of rayon, the likes of which I have never seen- the fabric of our lives can nary be found with a magnifying glass. The AC runs all night despite being on”auto” and in the morning after a terrible night attempting to forget everything you have seen and smelled this far, you will dine in Cinderella’s coach. When the clock strikes 9 despite being in line and getting food on your plate the woman will whisk everything away taking everything but the tongs in your hand. The only saving grace will be the coffee you swipe on your way out, which is how you know better days are ahead.

Stayed a night while driving through. Clean room. Easy to find. Close to Walmart. Breakfast was busy due to Covid precautions and staff were serving so we ended up going out for breakfast! Would stay again!
