We enjoyed our two night stay. The property is an easy walk to the Christmas markets, restaurants, main sights, grocery store, and the tram. We were upgraded to the apartment which is a very beautiful, modern, and comfortable space. Frau Donner is very friendly and speaks English, which we appreciated.

The Hofgartenhaus is a Guest House run by an Evangelical Order. If you are looking for an hotel experience then maybe you should look elsewhere. If you are looking for a spotlessly clean room at a good rate about 200 mtrs from the Frauenkirche, read on. I spent a lot of time reading the poor / terrible reports on Dresden accommodation and found a pattern of Indifference from Staff, Cleanliness, Wi-Fi issues, Value for Money and Nickle & Diming as one Reviewer put it. I was becoming disillusioned and came across Hofgartenhaus with no adverse reviews. As a Guest House it seems to have a number of older residents, spare rooms being let as available. I was a little later than expected arriving, no problem, key and all necessary information was with the Bistro Cafe attached to the Accommodation. The room allocated was about 4mtrs x 4mtrs simply furnished with a full length seperate shower room. Breakfast was not included, but was available in the Bistro Cafe for which you pay them directly €9-90 per person as taken, Typical German Cold Buffet breakfast Cereals, Yoghurt, Meats, Cheeses, Boiled Eggs, Breads, Juices and Hot Drinks. I took Dinner one day, nicely prepared and good quality. There was a kitchenette available with Tea / Coffee and facilities to prepare and eat your own simple meals if required. I stayed two nights and apart from in the Bistro I only saw one other guest. Location is excellent, right next to the Elbe and close to the centre of the Altstadt. There was a bit of traffic noise, but nothing obtrusive and I did have the window open. Reception was available daytime hours, I did not need any assistance, so the only contact I had was Checkout, which was very friendly. Wi-Fi was OK for my light usage. I did not have a car but noted there was no dedicated parking. Advice was given to use nearby Car Parks which would obviously incur charges, cannot comment on what they might be. Would I stop here again, most certainly would.

Clean, comfortable room and friendly and helpful reception. The restaurant next door was a bonus as well as the little gem of a garden. Close to all the attractions in the old city and walking distance to the Elbe and the steamboat tours.
A pleasant stay in prime location

When I booked the room through UK hotel site it was not obvious that the hotel was actually a guest house owned by the church. On arrival on Fri eve all was locked up and a note informed of a key waiting in restaurant next door. The guest house was almost empty but very comfortably fitted out with handy communal tea kitchen in corridor next to room. Complimentary tea/coffee/fruit/maps etc. Large single en suite room with IKEA style furniture but extremely clean and well kept plus tv and free fast wifi. Breakfast could be taken next door if booked but having kitchen I did not bother and supplied own cereal/tea. The Trump card is the prime location next to Albertinum and minutes away from all the historic buildings of the Old Town. Could not have been more convenient and cheap in comparison to other hotels nearby. Easy transport from airport. Get €2.30 ticket for S Bahn to Hauptbahnhof/Main rail station, then tram 3 or 7 to stop Synagoge, hotel is not even 100 metres away. Will def stay there again.
Simple Place in Excellent Location

This is a beautiful 18th century building in the center of Dresden. Most of the guests in this "hotel" aren't travellers, but rather long-term tenants. The building is run by the Evangelisch-Reformierte Church, and they make extra rooms available to the public on a per night basis. The furnishings and decor are simple but comfortable, and our room was spotless. The rooms are not huge and are not carpeted. The location in the Bruehlscher Garden is perfect for easy access to the Terrace, the churches, the Zwinger, the Neumarkt and all the museums. In fact, the Albertinium is directly across the cobblestoned street, only ten meters' walk. We could see inside the Albertinium windows from our room. Despite the central location, the building is quiet, and there is not much foot traffic on the streets below. There is no lobby or reception desk, but the church office on the first floor is open during business hours. There is also a bar/bistro next door that serves meals and drinks, and provides limited help to guests.
