Great stay in the heart of Duluth

The hostel is terrific. Excellent accommodations (it's a HOSTEL, not a HOTEL), clean, with a genuine emphasis on courtesy (quiet and privacy) of your hostel-mates. Very welcoming - couldn't be more so. If you're uptight, need some to wipe your nose and escort you to your private bunk with YOUR name on it, there are other places to go in Duluth. If you're looking for a quiet, clean, safe and very friendly place to lay your head - this is it. One caveat is parking. If you have a canoe on your rig before an up-north trip, ask about paid parking across the street. It's a downtown neighborhood, with an active downtown crowd. I left my canoe at my son's place in Duluth.
You can definitely catch a break here!

As someone who isn't able to check in at most hotels due to the minimum age limit, Hostel du Nord was a great last-minute find on Airbnb. I only stayed the night due to me needing a lot of rest after spending the whole day in public transit all the way from Minneapolis in order to prevent myself from getting stranded due to snowstorms. Bob is an incredibly great and accommodating host, and I was also able to meet a couple of other people (and the official hostel cat!) in the common area late at night. He showed me around the best he could during quiet hours, and the bunks provided a lot of privacy for me to rest my head for the night. The bathrooms were very clean and functional and not to mention that the place probably is one of the quietest and most relaxing places I ever stayed at. Had I stayed longer, I probably would've met a handful of others who were staying there as well, because the community aspect is something I really look for in a place to stay, and from what I felt from my very short stay, you matter. I am definitely coming back here again if I ever get the chance. PS: Don't mix up the Annex and the Hostel! Very understandable when it's winter-time and it's late at night. You'll find the place eventually, though it may take a couple of minutes. Consider it an adventure to a new world.
Cozy and welcoming

I stayed here for a couple nights just to get away for some R & R. The friendly staff made me feel right at home and I slept very well in my comfortable bunk. Very cool place in a convenient location. I am looking forward to spending more time there in the summer - I imagine the fire pit is the place to be!
Waste of time and my mileage. Don’t go!

I made a reservation for October 2nd-4th. I was very clear (upon their request) about my arrival time. I arrived exactly on time (if not a few minutes early). The instructions in my confirmation said that if no one was the desk...there would be a document for me to fill out. I rang the front desk bell...no response. Called the number provided...went straight to voicemail. Finally, someone came to the desk. Then, they had trouble finding my reservation, even though I presented them with a confirmation number. Another person came and was able to find it. Seemed like they had to do some switching around, as they thought I was only supposed to be there for one night. Finally, I was escorted to my bunk...which had not been cleaned yet. Was told to come back in a few minutes. Decided to try my hand at the casino for a few minutes, then walked back to my bunk...only to find someone else laying in it. I grabbed my stuff, left, and got a full refund from Airbnb. 6 hours round trip from my point of origin. Wasted. This was my first and last experience at a hostel. Never again.
Nice place to lay your head

My Husband and I spent three nights here. It was our first time in a Hostel. The place is clean, quiet and the staff is very friendly. I felt safe and secure so don't let the downtown area stop you from staying here. Within walking distance to the waterfront and restaurants. Young or old feel welcome here, but the patrons mainly seem to be between the ages of 20-30. I would consider staying here again if I visit Duluth. The money you save staying here, gives you money to spend on Food on the riverfront!
