My wife and I had stayed at Hotel St Clair prior to this booking and had found a specific room we wished to stay in, it was a luxury apartment with a great balcony and ocean views. I requested the specific room number and was told it was available for the 2 nights I wanted, I then paid for that room for our 2 night stay a week in advance to confirm the booking and was told it was a non refundable booking. Arrive at the hotel looking forward to our weekend away only to find that they had given the room I had paid for to someone else WTF, I asked why and the receptionist said people had been staying in the room and wanted to extend their stay, I said why didn't you say the room was not available, she could only apologise, they gave me a $32 refund - it was an insult really and I will think long and hard before recommending anyone stay there. ing

The room we were assigned was comfortable and well appointed. The view of the ocean was only available on the balcony, and it was a bit too windy to sit out. The hotel is right on the promenade, so a walk along the beach is easy to access. You will need to pay up front when you check in. Excellent restaurants nearby.
All about aesthetics

We stayed two nights at St Clair hotel. On arrival the first thing we noticed, the lampshades next to the bed where broken. Tiles in the shower corner are broken. The toilet keeps on dripping. Second day they didn’t fill up on coffee or biscuits. No fresh fruit or coffee machine like I read in previous reviews. The hotel is in a great location so we expected everything to have a wow factor, but that is not the case. We spend 16 days on the ‘Road’ almost every night in a different hotel. I feel a little like the hotel inspector. Also I am an Interior Designer and found the layout and furnishings very bland and boring. On our trip we spend several nights in boutique hotels, which where cheaper and definitely had the wow factor We spend $300 a night. Everything is there but that’s is it, no imagination and furniture is a bit worn. No value for money The staf at reception where very friendly and informative. Hope this helps.

I had booked and pre paid an oceanview room for $219 per night over the internet, On arrival I was told all of the Ocean view rooms were not available, I could have a room on the side of the hotel with a view of hills and houses. I had planned two nights looking at the ocean from the balcony I had pre booked. The man on the reception was not at all helpful, kept leaving me standing in reception while he spoke to some one in the back office. After crediting my card I left and and stayed in a two room suite at the Millennium Hotel with awesome city and sea views for $195 a night, much better value.
