I would unfortunately not recommend this hotel. Rooms are dated, and feel unclean. I was there during a very cold time and there was no heating option on the aircon in the entire hotel.The windows don't close completely so the wind was whistling in, i was offered an upgrade but the offered room was bigger (thetefore colder). Shower is in the tub with a shower curtain. I checked out after an hour of checking in and moved hotels for my stay in the Durban region.

Overnight ing in Durban before moving to another resort. The best thing about this hotel was the position on the beachfront. Reception staff were curt and unfriendly, the lifts were old, took a long time and one seemed never to move! Our room was basic, decor was old and tired, and the air con so noisy that you couldn't sleep with it on. We ate dinner in the hotel , supposed to have a choice of 4, restaurants but one was closed, and another was holding a private party, so ended up at the buffet. Surprisingly good, and value for money. Breakfast was packed and noisy, a conference going on, gave up queuing for cooked food and had cereal and yogurt! We had not been I formed about the conference.

Unfortunately MAHARANI tower was closed due to low occupancy and our party of 15 were not advised . We were forced to stay in the Elangeni. Hotel is horrible, front desk staff Lindiwe not interested and does not care about guest needs. Hotel rooms were not clean the rooms look like they have not been vacuumed in a year , carpets are stained and dusty , air con nonexistent, shower mats had mould growing on them . Changed rooms twice , but no difference in cleanliness. Rooms are old and outdated, needs a fresh coat of paint . Door latch was broken looks like someone forced it open, and maintenance never repaired it. No extractor in the bathroom , or it does not work , after a shower the whole room is hot and full of steam. Curtains have layers of dust and you are too scared to open and close them.

Absolutely stunning views of the Durban beachfront from here. Beautiful set-up around the pool area. Fantastic cocktails. Friendly & efficient waitress. The only downfall was the food. 3 of the 4 people in our group ordered burgers with chips. The burger buns & chips were stale. Chips tasted like it was made a few hours earlier, reheated & served to us. Very disappointing for a 4-5 star hotel.

The hotel is showing its age. Had numerous issues with the elevators. Air conditioning all but non existent. Serving staff in breakfast feel more obliged to chat to each other rather than serve the guests. Front staff could be coached in guest relations and not have a I dont care attitude. I have informed our travel agency to remove this hotel from its preferred status.
