More about the hotel
Never again
Horrible basic expensive, and lies about free WiFi... the place is a joke ,,, don’t do it people. 10inch telly on the wall from the 1990s I stay away a lot for work and I can honestly say this is the worst.
Great value
Stayed for 2 nights on the 1st floor and it had everything we needed. Checked in on the 2nd (fast simple check in) by very polite receptionist who also takes your temperature..our room was large clean and warm and we could not fault it for the price. You have to pay £5 for 24 hr parking which is very cheap for Edinburgh but there are about 7 parking spots facing the reception which are free if you can get on them (luckily we did so that saved us £30). Only one small gripe that we had was some noise from neighbouring rooms but that's not the hotels fault . As I've said this place was an absolute bargain.
Pleasant Stay
We stayed at this hotel for 1 night as part of a short tour. The rooms we had were nicely furnished, comfortable bed and even in-room iron & board. Restrictions did apply due to Covid 19 (bar closed at 10pm) but both breakfast and evening meal were good - served at table I would certainly return again as very reasonably priced
Badly staffed in restaurant and poor quality of food
Travelled as part of coach party. Only two staff severing in restaurant but most of the serving was done by the waiter who couldn't have went any faster even if he had been on roller skates. He apologised for the delay in seating us. The first sitting was at 6.30 and second at 7pm. How can a group finish 3 courses in 30 minutes? Some were still having main course at 7.20. We weren't seated until 7.50.Two couples were seated after us by the waitress as waiter was working elsewhere. She served both couples before taking our order. Thus we were last out. Food was not freshly made but cooked from frozen. Some passengers sent food back as still frozen inside. No tea or coffee only water with meal. Soup very thin and lukewarm. No rolls with soup but bread toasted on one side and soggy on other. Breakfast was lukewarm. Best part of breakfast was tea which we made ourselves. At least water was boiling. No run but vacuum flask. When this was empty waitress checked it and instead of taking it into kitchen to fill it was filled up from boiled kettle which was taken from kitchen through open area and into dining room. Would have been much better if they staffed evening meal better. Also piped music in dining area and in lounge/foyer. Thought that was banned under new rules without it wasn't too loud. Our rooms were clean but window frames were old and in need of replacing and ledges on outside were filthy. We clean them ourselves.
Not worth it
It is not good hotel at all no WiFi and you need to go outside just to connect to a free one, asking to change room but not allowing asking for cancellation of room not allowing not recommended at all
