Nice hotel but was disappointed

We stayed here for our honeymoon as we had to cancel our original plans to go abroad due to covid restrictions. As I had cancelled and rebooked our trip whilst finalising the last details of our wedding in the upcoming weeks when checking in I couldn’t remember the name I had used on the booking. I explained to the company representative on the check in desk that we were married the day before hence the mix up. The lady at the desk found our booking however she offered no congratulations or well wishes on our wedding the day before. Considering I was feeling disappointed with having to change our plans, this complete lack of care or interest for one of the biggest events in our lives really was another blow. Due to this stay being our honeymoon we asked for a canal view however we were told this wasn’t available for the room type we had booked and we needed to pay an additional £80 for this. We did so and were happy with the size and view of the room. On the second day of our stay Breakfast was not available which was disappointing as this had already been paid for by us, no refund or compensation was offered. The room was clean however did go from one extreme to the other in temperature but this could be expected for the size of the room and age of the building. Overall, the hotel is in a lovely location and the rooms are a good size and nicely furnished however in our experience the staff ruined our experience. This could be a 5 star hotel if the staff offered a better level of service.

When booking a Malmaison hotel you expect consistency and uniformity in quality compared to other Malmaison establishments, this wasn't the case in our stay in Leith. When arriving in our room my partner removed her shoes and went to the bathroom to freshen up which was covered in human urine. Meaning the room hadn't been properly checked or cleaned. Never recieved an apology when exchanging our keys for a different room, or an offer to clean her clothes which were now covered in urine. Won't be returning.
Christmas 2021 Package at Malmaison Leith

Beautiful building set on the quayside in trendy Leith. Cobbled streets, lots of history, and surrounded by cafes and restaurants. The hotel has the usual Malmaison cool hip vibe which i love, its also the very first in the group to open in 1994. Pros Trendy, hip, cool Big rooms Super comfy beds Lovely breakfast Fabulous food on Christmas eve Bottle of champagne, chocs, and card Cons Bathroom tap fitting needed adjusting Christmas day lunch was disappointing No room service in the evening on christmas day In all i enjoyed my stay very much, there were lots of dogs staying as it was Christmas, made some friends. I realise catering on mass is challenging, but that did reflect in the food on the big day compared to the night before. The shredded sprouts were a bit weird, next time maybe Malmaison, a more traditional Scottish Christmas dinner would go down better, also mince pies, crimbo cake, and festive lights outside in the green bushes would have looked lovely and welcoming.
Poorest Malmaison experience

Having stayed many an impressive stay at Malmaisons across the British Isles, this was sadly the poorest experience. From the cold (I hesitate to call it a) welcome to the poorly explained procedures around the allocation of breakfast times (a new covid measure apparently). The room was lovely and bed impressive despite the torn sheets - see photo. I feel they must be ok with providing tatty linen as the same sheets were on for the second night so cannot be put down to being missed on the first night. Reception tried to charge us for breakfast despite having paid for it upon booking. Would’ve got away with it if we didn’t raise the issue. Plenty of issues to sort for what could be a great hotel in an amazing location.
Time to get refurbished!

Location is excellent, Architecturally pleasing but total let down from start to finish. Only one person on the reception desk and had to wait 10-15 minutes before checking in. The decor was very tired and needs a total refurbishment. The room was on the 1st floor and faced the car park and some businesses opposite so having the curtains opened didn't give any privacy. The window frames are old with single panes which made them draughty and also noisy in the morning with cars, lorries and deliveries. The bathroom was tired with old water damage and no power shower. The bedroom was cold and really tired and not what i expected from a reputable hotel. There was an empty Mini Bar which not sure why and had to hunt for the second lot of towels which were found in the wardrobe? The bar was soulless and cold and didn't temp us to stay for another drink To say our visit was a disappointment is an understatement, we wont be back and also wouldn’t recommend to friends and family…. A total refurbishment is needed and a few more members of staff wouldn’t go amiss!
