Shameful Waste of a Modern Hotel

Reviewed 17 september, 2022

Good hard product shadowed by poor attention to detail. At check-in, there was no greeting at all. We were not told about any hotel amenities and facilities. Was not told about the breakfast details either, we had to call down later and ask, and the answer was “there maybe a buffet but I‘m not sure” - how about you find out? We had to ask for a “brand-standard” cookie - may as well not offer it. If Hilton is this proud of the “iconic” Doubletree cookie to the point it's everywhere on the app, I'd expect this to be proactively given out like any other Doubletree. No upgrades were offered, didn't bother asking since it was just for one night. The lady who checked me in laughed into my face when I asked for a late check-out - the answer was a “No I can't give you that because we don't know how many arrivals we will have tomorrow” - very clumsy excuse, unless your PMS is genuinely that terrible. I still don't have a clue why the laughing part was necessary though. A gentleman was hanging out in the lobby when we checked in. Turned out he was a bellman/runner but he was not uniformed, nor was he wearing a name tag. If he showed up in front of my door I would definitely not open up. Breakfast was decent, although service was VERY slow and the restaurant was empty. Had to make my own tea and pay $4 for it (I'm still amazed by this) and our server didn't show up after delivering our food. All those mentioned above could be called “minor details”, but these minor details are going to make or break an entire experience. I enjoyed the modern and clean room among a lot of other things, but now the only things I remembered and brought home with me was how terrible the check-in was and how worthless being a diamond member is nowadays. A shame if you ask me.

Paid $400 for a Suit how to king bed and pull out couch, We requested a caught when we booked us a room as there was four of us. When we checked and we asked about the cot and was in the room She said she wasn’t sure just called down if it wasn’t there and somebody would bring us one up, I called down as there was none in the room and was informed that they do not have cots and that Lady that told us that was new, not the end of the world requested a different room so we all had beds they said they could accommodate us showed us another room, we were willing to take the other room but since it was half the cost of the one that we were in when I asked about the refund for the suit She said she was unable to do that as we booked through Expedia the only thing she could offer is this additional room for $100 for the night so then we would have two rooms, Spending an extra hundred dollars was not ideal but So be it and we agreed, 20 minutes after getting settled in we got a call to the room and we were informed that her manager said it would be 150 minimum or we would have to vacate that room completely ridiculous we were already in bed as it was late so we were forced to spend another $50, I can look past the completely deplorable conditions outside that hotel as well as safety concerns, but the way that they handled this was ridiculous

Meh

Reviewed 27 july, 2022

We first stayed in this hotel during COVID. It was meh then, and it continues to be meh. During COVID underground parking was $20, ok fair, now $28.50? I get inflation but that’s absurd. As Diamond members when we called to check for upgrades, they kindly upgraded us to a suite with a kitchenette. When we got to the hotel, if the “kitchenette” was the presence of a fridge… that’s all we got. The room itself is quite nice, could clean the outside windows. When we arrived we were looking forward to our cookies and bottles of water, the front desk person was so flustered (not even at the desk when we arrived) he barely knew what to do, and no cookies and water. It’s sad that an unattended hot tub closes at 10p, we arrived at 1030p. The final kick was the morning we left. We went down for breakfast, and found out, the first Hilton ever that had hot breakfast, didn’t offer it complimentary to Diamond members, we only qualified for continental, which was some croissants, bowl of fruit and juice. We walked out, so very disappointing. It was a $7 up charge for the hot breakfast which in itself looked skimpy at best. Never again staying in this Hilton. You’re not the worst in Edmonton, but you’re far from good.

Poor service, poor location, ridiculous parking

Reviewed 22 june, 2022

Okay the good part is that the rooms themselves were comfortable enough and affordable, aside from the loud, echoing, slamming doors. BUT! The woman at check-in was so rude and arrogant, and tried to rip us off and make things difficult, and when we questioned her, she excused herself by saying her English was no good. Well it was fine until she chose to use it as an excuse. The bar is expensive - the food was okay. The location is unfortunately in a rough part of town, so it doesn't feel safe walking at night. And because of this parking should be free to guests. And the parking lot! Very tight angles to get in, even tighter to get out. One of our group had a Highlander and it was really difficult to leave. Anything larger, like a big truck or Suburban, would have been impossible. Hence all the paint and scratches on the adjacent walls.
