A-Ok for 1 night
Reviewed 5 january, 2020
It seemed we reserved the last available room in the city of El Cajon for 1 night on a Saturday night. We had zero expectation and frankly expected a dump because of the horrendous reviews. Check-in was fast, lobby has 2 chairs, a table with coffeemaker and a rack full of San Diego tours and flyers. They issue only 1 key to the room and another key to the Super 8 motel next door if we need ice. True story. Parking is tight but free. Our room was on the 1st floor. Building has 2 floors with no elevator. Inside the room is a king bed with no headboard, 4 pillows, wood floors, microwave, mini fridge, safe, sink outside of the bathroom, hairdryer, TV and a disgusting old chair that has seen better days. The whole place could use a makeover. Bring your own toiletries. Towels and toilet paper are thin. We were afraid to avail of the free breakfast. Hot water and shower pressure worked great; AC was cold; there were multiple electric outlets; WiFi was fast and even if location is on a main street we weren’t bothered by noise. We were allowed to check-out at 11:30am. It was okay for a quick overnight stay to avoid a DUI.
Don’t pick this place to stay

It is filthy here! There is mold in the curtains, cobwebs on the ceiling, something brown seeping out of the walls and the sheets are gross too. It says continental breakfast but that just means day old pastries. And the woman who checked us in was the most unpleasant person I have ever met in my life...awful staff and customer service.
Need a place to stay after long boarding at Mission Beach
Reviewed 14 october, 2018
I was looking for a budget place to stay away from Mission Beach, along I-8 for my trip back to Tucson. After an evening of long boarding along Mission to Pacific Beach, I was glad I found Northgate, I called to get a room, he help it till I got there at about 9:30PM. Clean room, newer bathroom/ shower. Not much noise, A/C was ok, and cooled the room, wish room had a ceiling fan. Slept good. I will be using this hotel for my travels!
DIRTY, BED BUGS, AND BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE
Reviewed 24 june, 2018
This motel is owned and operated by a couple, the husband is ok but the wife is the worst customer service clerk I've ever encountered. She never smiles and never greet you! She treats customers like beggars, I PAID FOR THE ROOM so I expected some respect even if it's fake please. There's no ice in the motel. If you need ice you need to walk to the next motel and get it, and at night this area is not safe to be outside. There's no iron, hair dryer, coffee/tea in the room. The air conditioner is not working properly, it's auto set to run for about 3 minutes and off for about 10 minutes (no matter how you adjust it). The room is dirty. The fridge and microwave are filthy my wife has to clean it good prior to our first use. There are stains on the walls and ceilings, and the bed sheets are smelled so bad we have to use our own. BED BUGS - On our 2nd day at this motel we woke up to a big bed bug crawling on our sheet (I've attached the pics). We brought it to their attention and they moved us to an adjacent room and said the room needs to be sprayed immediately. Well, the next morning I walked past the room and saw the room was still in its original state (pillows, bed sheets on the bed as I left them), and later the maid came in and cleaned the room, I didn't see any bug spray! It was my fault for booking cheap motel, I've learned a big lesson. The following week, I paid FIVE extra dollars a night and was able to book a much nicer and cleaner motel in the area.
Not a good place to stay

I can't understand in some of the reviews I've read people have been saying its quiet and you can get sleep here. Well when I was there it wasn't that way. There was Mexicans partying all through the night listening to loud mexican music, doing burn-outs in the parking lot and employees here ignore it. I got so weary of this I ended up asking Super 8 which is next door if I could park my truck in there parking lot because of the craziness at the Northgate and I didn't want my 1974 truck which has been fully restored 'new' being hit in anyway. Super 8 allowed me to. Northgate motel is dirty to, I found hair in my bed from who ever else stayed in the room along with what looked like food crumbs in the bed, and also a thick pile of dust all over the top of the TV. I was up the whole night and was happy to get the hell out of this dump. Would never stay here again and would never recommend it to anyone.
