Staycation no sailboats as advertised and mixed rules for other sports, Elite perks underwhelming/misrepresented
Opinión escrita el 18 de Agosto de 2021
So, we had a few mishaps with our stay; the biggest one was we went with the main idea that the teenagers could sail the hobie cats and paddleboard, ride the water bikes, etc.
Well - NO sailboats are there now (even though still on website and their resort map) - hasn't been for 2 years from what we were told.
The paddleboards are for 16+ , they were permitted to ride the waterbikes - but only inside the water jetties which is quite small.
Soooo HUGE disappointment.
There really is not much for the teen crowd to do here so that is disappointing. No one was organizing beach volleyball, no fire at night for smores, or ghost tour (I mean this would be the perfect place if you know the history) - basically bored teens or on their phones! :(
We are platinum and were upgraded to a nice room in the Spa building overlooking the marina, we had a separate bedroom w/ a king, huge 5 pc bathroom, and living room w/ sleeper sofa along w/ a big balcony. The elevator is oddly placed at the far end of the building so you have a long walk from pool or restaurants.
Speaking of the spa, I was told I could use the spa amenities ahead of our stay (again as a Platinum elite perk); only to be told at checkin that no I could not... after I explained I was already told yes, they qualified it and said - well, go ahead ... but for only 90 minutes!? Yeah, I skipped it - that would have been super awkward to be on the clock like that and NOT relaxing at all... another big disappointment.
The pool area is nice- adult pool is separate and plenty of shade. The grounds are beautiful, they have some "beach" chairs and umbrellas too.
It was too hot to ride their bikes - again we went for the watersports... :(
The food was all very good - pool service is pretty good (first day much better than 2nd-depends who you get really. The older gentleman was very good while the younger girl was ok.)
The drinks are overpriced for sure and the bartender was lacking a few basic drinks (mai tai and strawberry daiquiri!?!) We enjoyed our dinner and the beautiful sunset. Slept soundly - which is always important.
Breakfast was a bit of a mixup as well. It is poorly explained and really underwhelming as a elite member. We were told we could have the continental breakfast or use the vouchers for $36 off, sounds like plenty until you see the buffet is $27+ and most entrees are in the $20's.
We got the continental (choice of ONE muffin, croissant or toast) with fruit parfait. ($16). It was actually quite filling - but, a bit disappointing overall.
Our friends mistakenly thought they got the entire buffet with their voucher and had a costly mistake of $58 on their invoice!
We enjoyed our late checkout of 4PM and I mentioned to the front desk manager some of issues we experienced - she assured me that I would receive an email from her and would follow up with me.
I received an email from the recreation mgr along with the another mgr.... it basically boiled down to "lip service" with much verbage repeated in each email about being "Gracious Southern Hosts" and to promos to be the "Queen of Southern Resorts"... lol
For the price we spent I had hoped for more to be honest. I guess we will go back to Pensacola, Navarre and Gulf Shores for our staycations in the future.
Wonderful place to visit

Had a meeting here and was very pleased. It was a little over an hour drive from Mobile Airport and well worth it. The drive was like turning back time. Beautiful homes with manicured lawns and views of Mobile Bay. Getting to the hotel was like entering an enchanted garden. Beautiful ponds and terrific shade trees. The valet service was very attentive.
Our room in Building 3 had a wonderful view of the gardens and was very spacious. The bathroom was well designed. The bed was very comfortable.
The pool area was always clean and lots of service at the beach. The water was warm as bathwater. Lots of amenities were available. Particularly enjoyed borrrowing bikes for rides up and down the road. Lots of hiking areas were also available. The staff was always friendly and ready to give out helpful information.
Certainly would recommend.
Shower felt great, BUT stained carpet and worn shower ruined it for me.

It’s a nice place, with great amenities, but I paid over $600 a night for a room w stained carpet and a worn shower. The shower felt amazing if I closed my eyes and didn’t look around. The grounds are lovely…but at this point in my life, a weekend away from the kids, it’s all about the room. Stained carpet is disgusting and not within the price point I paid for.
Professional Conference for me but family had great time too

We loved our time at the Grand Hotel!! I was there for a professional conference but the hotel had lots of activities for my husband and kids to enjoy — to the point where I teasingly asked them to stop sending fun pics while I sat through my CLE sessions. One day our conference broke for lunch and in a day of rain what seemed like a hundred or so conference attendees all decided to lunch at Bayside Grill at once. The hostess was friendly, calm, and apparently immediately reached out to her management team who re-directed employees from the pool and Fresh Market store to come and assist the Bayside Grill team. We were by the entrance and kitchen and every single employee and manager showed up with a smile and a desire to provide excellent service. They improvised new seating to accommodate the massive influx and did it with all the gracious Southern hospitality for which the Grand Hotel has been known for since 1847. We enjoyed the Grand’s beautiful grounds, the kids loved finding the famed ducks as we explored, and we all enjoyed the fantastic friendly and efficient servers (special thanks Q, Princess, Mary Michael, Lindsey, and Haley 😊) as well as the sweet bellman who were always helpful getting us a shuttle or answering questions. Although my conference is over, we have all voted to come back as soon as we can and enjoy again the beautiful and gracious Grand Hotel and its most excellent staff. Well done, Grand Hotel!!!!
