Weekend in Florence

Reviewed 10 november, 2021

The location is great! Close to the station and the center. Very good value for money! The rooms are spacious, breakfast is included and the host was very friendly and helpful. She let us leave our suitcase at the B&b during our last day, which was great.

Great Place and Great Service

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights while visiting Florence. The owner is very sweet and informative. She speaks perfect english which was a huge help to my wife and I and gave us a lot of ideas on how to spend our 2 days in Florence. She made our experience awesome!!! #Chicago #HancockObservatory

Quaint and comfortable! A lovely stay in a beautiful and cosy B&B.

Casa di Barbano is a quaint and cosy B&B run by a lovely lady, Moraq. You immediately feel like you are living like a real Italian when you enter the big wooden doors on the street and are met by the ground floor B&B with a beautiful courtyard. It is small, but comfortable and homely - we enjoyed our stay here. The room was comfortable and extremely clean. Moraq is very friendly and assists with a map and directions to all the major tourist attractions. For us, because we traveled in and out of Florence by train, we liked the location as it was about a 7 minute walk to the Florence train station (Firenze Santa Maria Novella). However, Casa di Barbano is also close to San Marco Square and the Accademia Gallery and from there it is a pleasant walk (a few kms) through the streets and town to see all the major attractions. We really enjoyed our time here, but the only recommendation for improvement is flexibility with two things. First, with regard to an early breakfast, most tourists have early tour departures and Moraq was unable to provide a half an hour earlier breakfast, which meant we paid for breakfast that we did not have and needed to try to find a place to eat at that early hour (6:30am). Also, there is a towel policy which states that towels will only be changed after 2 days, or else there would be added charges. For people who shower twice a day, that means 4 baths with one towel. This is not reasonable especially as we are paying for the services, and is the first time we have experienced a requirement like this. If these two things could be addressed, then this would be an absolutely perfect stay! All in all we had a pleasant stay and would recommend this B&B to others.

While the owner of this establishment was friendly enough, she had somehow allowed a double-booking and we got the short-end of the stick. This meant we were placed in a top floor apartment with no adjustment on price. It was a very difficult climb (three sets of 3 flights of stairs) and it was incredibly hot in that 2 BR apartment. There was one small air conditioning unit in the hallway but it did not provide sufficient cooling for the 2 bedrooms. Moreover, there was a lingering bad odor in the apartment. The heat would have been unbearable were it not for a fan in each BR. Overall, this room was not a good value in June and in hindsight I should have asked for an adjustment in price given the climb and the insufficient AC. The hotel's location is close to the train station and convenient to bus routes. The major museums are within walking distance, but these are pretty long walks and you will tire of making the trip. We made it once per day. You would be well advised to get a bus pass if you are staying here for several days. The buses are easy to use. The terrace where we ate breakfast was pleasant. The breakfast consisted of croissants, other breads, a special pastry, yogurt, coffee, and juice. I suspect the options for single rooms at Casa di Barbano are better than the options for triples (what we had reserved). We noted several single guests (students?). Although the owner was friendly and helpful with our plans, I regret that I cannot recommend the top floor apartment. The climb to the 3rd floor is too difficult and way the apartment is way too hot in the summer. If you are considering a stay here, I'd advise getting firm details on your exact room location, including verification that you will not be on the 3rd floor and that you will have sufficient A/C to sleep at night.

After a tiring train ride from Rome to Florence, we finally arrived at Casa Di Barbano at 12h30. We were met at the hotel by a very unfriendly lady who proceeded to tell us that she did not have a room for us (after our booking was made 6 months prior) but could put us up in a self catering 2 bedroom apartment at the top of the building. Well, we had heavy suitcases which we had to lug up 6 rather big flights of stairs which was the second strike after not have a room avail for us. We were exhausted by the time we got up the stairs to be met with intense heat right at the top of the stairs. There was a central aircon in the flatlet which did not touch sides as the apartment was hot and had 4 rooms which it needed to cool. 3rd strike was that there was only 1 bathroom to share with 4 adults (tricky). 4th strike was that there were no mirrors except for in the bathroom which we all had to share so putting on make-up etc was tricky. I went downstairs to complain that we could not possibly do with the 1 mirror in the bathroom when she near outright accused me of taking the mirror as she said there was one when we arrived. About 15 min later she came upstairs with a mirror and apologized and said that the previous people had taken it. 5th strike was when we got down to breakfast. We were not expecting anything special, but what we got was not expected either. Juice was limited. We each had a roll and croissant with jam and butter no even any cheese to go with that. The staff that we did see was unfriendly and all in all was the low of our entire trip. Not recommended at all.
