We booked The Lovat on the strength of previous reviews and because it was dog friendly. Thankfully it didn’t disappoint. The food was exceptional starting with the breakfast and finishing with a most fabulous dessert (millionaires shortbread which should be renamed billionaires shortbread - delicious). And the staff! The Lovat is so lucky to have such wonderful people working for them. Everyone we spoke to was friendly, charming and extremely professional. In the room a big towel, handmade treats, poo bags and two dog bowls were left out for us to use which was a lovely touch and there are poo bins and a great big enclosed lawn to play ball on. There are also some beautiful walks right from the door. It’s a shame that with two beautiful lounges one of them isn’t pet friendly but dogs can sit with you in the bar. We hope to return.

A most delightful stop-off!

This hotel was chosen as an alternative to our usual accommodation due to Covid issues. We don't regret the decision at all, as everything about our admittedly short stay (one night), was enough to put the Lovat on a "definitely must return" list. Accommodation, food, cleanliness, and most importantly, SERVICE, were outstanding. The staff were excellent, and in the restaurant and bar were very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu on offer, which was their vegetarian option, at our request. We both had 3 courses and coffee, and an excellent bottle of red. Everything was a delight and the staff were very informed of the dishes we ordered. So, as we are frequent visitors to Fort Augustus, the Lovat Hotel will be our go to choice in the future. Highly recommended.

We booked a night at the Lovat on the way up to the Hebrides mainly because of the electric vehicle charge-points in the car park. We discovered a lovely well run hotel with fine dining and dog friendly rooms. Decor and bed comfort good. Recommended. Fort Augustus is a pleasant village with several other places to eat should you choose to and good walking and cycling.

We stayed in a Deluxe Double on the top floor. Very spacious room and bathroom, tastefully decorated with a nice side view of the canal and mountains. Breakfast was delicious both mornings. Staff were all very professional and friendly at the same time. My only small criticism, the room was extremely warm. Made the 2nd nights sleep a little uncomfortable. Apparently the heating pipes are in the walls and under the floor, making it warm even if the radiators are off. There is a fan in the room, however a bit noisy to leave on all night. This is a minor issue when balanced with everything else the hotel has to offer. We would stay again, we may just ask for a different room. The restaurant deserves a special mention too. Absolutely outstanding. A little pricey (for us and our budget, maybe that's a personal thing) but we felt the quality and creativity of the food made it worthy of the price tag. Would definitely return for a special occasion. Overall a really enjoyable stay. Thank you.

Comfortable garden room with excellent set-up for dog owners. The restaurant had amazing food with friendly, attentive, non-stuffy service. Overall, we had a memorable overnight stay and will certainly be back.
