Just came back from holiday at Girassol Suite Hotel in Madeira. The hotel was amazing. Great food. Good staff. Location is good too, as there are frequent bus service into Town. We really enjoyed our time.
Perfect for our break.

We stayed here for a week on B&B. The hotel is clean and comfortable, the suites are of a good size. Breakfast was more or less the same everyday but had a good choice and was of reasonable quality apart from the yogurt which was not so good. We only ate at the hotel on one evening which was one of the two times per week when they do a BBQ buffet by the pool bar. It was quite nice and good value at 22.50 Euros including your first drink. There was a band playing although the singer was very enthusiastic and only had a volume level of 11. The hotel offers an all inclusive deal although we would never do this in an area where there are so many options to try, lots of people did have their white wrist band. There is a kettle and fridge in the room although you have to buy packs of tea and coffee. We took our own tea bags and bought milk for fridge. The gardens are pleasant and there are two pools, one adults only. The sunbeds are a little crowded in. The staff at the hotel were all really friendly and helpful, a special mention for Deborah on reception. The lifts are quite small and at 9:00 every morning we at several stops from our top floor room down to breakfast when people could not get in as lift was full. Hotel is positioned near many local restaurants and it is a 20-25 min walk into harbour or old town area or a 10 minute bus ride. Though not front line I should think there are at least partial ocean view from most rooms. It is not a luxury hotel but comfortable and value for money and I would recommend.
It did the job

I was looking for somewhere with a reasonable sized room, a comfortable bed, a good shower, a good location and free parking. It ticked all of those boxes. I don’t like those little sachets of shower gel. This was easily solved by a visit to one of the many local supermarkets. A kettle and a mini fridge were much appreciated. I am happy providing my own teabags. They will provide at a cost. Breakfast – some good, some bad, mostly average. Bad – yoghurt like wallpaper paste, ‘orange juice’, watered down reconstituted from powder. I saw one guest bringing her own yoghurt and juice to breakfast. Good – bread and cake. There was lots of variety with a number of hot dishes. The waiting staff are very efficient at clearing plates and friendly with it. The car park was small and very busy. We always got in but often with not much space left. There are lots of eating options of varying standards around. It is a good 30 minute walk into town, with one significant hill (downhill into town).

Stayed at this hotel beginning of September, the rooms are very clean and the toiletries supplied were a nice touch. I would never stay all inclusive though as there is zero entertainment at the hotel except for barbecue nights. The area has such a choice of restaurants and there is always something going on entertainment wise at the hole in the wall up the road. Drinks are really cheap at all the pubs and restaurants. The great thing about this hotel is that there is always a sunbed available and the pool is really nice, we stayed at the family pool as the adult pool had no music playing. The hotel is in a great location, you can either walk to the Lido area or to the old town within 20-30 minutes although walking back from the Old town there is a steep hill which is a bit of challenge. The bus is only two euros and they stop nearly outside the hotel. Breakfast was lovely, plenty of choice and was nice to sit outside. Staff were all friendly and very helpful. Really enjoyed our stay. If I had one negative it would be that the lifts are slow and do not accommodate more than four people at a time, but you are on holiday and no one is in a hurry so did not bother us. We had a lovely view over the pool and could see the sea. Thank you for a lovely holiday.
Wonderful staff, lovely hotel

This is a very pleasant hotel, with good, very clean facilities and attractive decor and surroundings. What made it really special for us was the staff, who were so very friendly & couldn’t do enough to help. We travelled as a family group but in two separate suites. As grandparents (young ones!) we were happy to be able to spend time at the peaceful adult pool with its daybeds and in-water loungers, the pool long enough to do a few gentle lengths before flopping down with a drink (generous measures) and a book. The family pool was well-used but never overcrowded and parents were not of the mindset to constantly either ignore or yell at their kids. We were on an all-inclusive board basis and the food didn’t disappoint. It was plentiful and tasty, with fish dishes being a feature but other choices always also available. A constant supply from breakfast - cooked, Continental, cereals, toast, pastries - took us to 11:00 pastries in the pool bar. Lunch is served from 1pm, with hot choices and salads, delicious cakes and fruit. At about 4pm more snacks appeared, with dinner in the dining room served from 7pm. We tend to veer away from ‘laid-on’ entertainment but actually the live bands at the bi-weekly barbecue nights were excellent. The only reason I’ve given the hotel 4 instead of 5 stars is the beds. The mattresses have probably seen better days - we could feel the wire work frames and I ended up putting a thick blanket under the sheet for some padding. Such a pity, as the rest of it was so great.
