Lovely hotel, made our holiday even better.

Reviewed 20 september, 2022

Just returned from two weeks at this lovely hotel. Many many plus points-very clean, lovely grounds and two pools which were lovely and warm, jacuzzi, tennis and a squash court plus gym. In the rooms there is a mini bar with very reasonable prices plus a kettle and tea making facilities (coffee in room is decaf only so any hard core caffeine addicts need to bring own for the room!) Beds very comfy, maid service daily, extra pillows in wardrobe, towels provided for pool. Staff were all very friendly and spoke many languages. Bonus of minibus in and back from Funchal free many times a day. My tip would be use the bus-the roads in Funchal are very steep hills and it’s very warm so use the bus to get in and out. We also used taxis on a few occasions and it cost €7 so very reasonable. We stayed bed and breakfast and there was a large selection of foods available plus hot and cold drinks. We also opted to pay for evening meal at the buffet restaurant a few times which was €27 each not including drinks-food was very good, barbecue night one evening and other dishes cooked fresh other nights. Seating both inside and out-if you want to sit outside I suggest booking meal around 7pm so you get a seat. Twice a week they currently do a pop up cocktail bar with cocktails and poncha €5. Pool bar is open 10-1900hrs and food there was good too. Only negative I would say is one Sunday it was very wet so we struggled for lunch as the pool bar was closed and we weren’t made aware of any alternative. At the end of the driveway if you turn right and walk up the hill there is a small supermarket and bakery. If you walk further up the hill to the top there’s a large supermarket so supplies are nearby if you need them. Negatives were few-we don’t smoke and Madeira allows smoking in outside restaurants so if you want smoke free stay in the dining room rather than outside. Did put us off sitting outside at night for drinks but that’s us. Service for drinks after dinner wasn’t great, hit or miss depending who was on but on the plus side cocktails weren’t expensive. We ended up getting some drink locally and sitting on balcony. Entertainment was scarce-on Tuesdays there was a duo singing and then a folklore event for 40 minutes then Thursday a cover band but that was it. I am certain if the hotel added extra entertainment and also improved the service for drinks after dinner people would stay there for the whole evening. To get to the indoor pool you have to walk along the balcony of the A la cart restaurant which was not a nice experience when we were in our swimsuits and there was a christening party on there 😀 maybe there is another way we didn’t know about . Also there was someone giving swimming lessons to children in the indoor pool which was rather noisy at the time as little one was upset( no idea if this is run by the hotel). There’s a lovely private terrace down by that pool with a few loungers. We would definitely return to this hotel. Luggage storage is available on last day and you can use the bus to go in to Funchal if you have a late flight. Lovely holiday, thank you Hotel Panoramico!

Good hotel

Nice hotel. Some of the rooms don’t have the best of views however we didn’t spend much time in the room. There was a shuttle bus to the centre but make sure you book this as it can fill up quickly on certain times. Great local bus service which stops outside hotel. Nice pool area. Good breakfast

Two-Night Stay - Better stay then anticipated after Pool Bar drink and first impressions, as good value in high season

Firstly we'd 100% return given the overall value.. No 1 Good room, really nice given the price and walk-in shower v good and spacious.. No 2 the shuttle down to Funchal harbour/seafront very good and accommodative given the hotel's size.. No 3 The breakfast was good, a solid 7.5/10 due to the variety, maybe an 8 as the omlette chef was excellent.., but we didnt really go for drinks on the hotel at all, this was the only real negative, as when we arrived we had two Pina Coladas in the pool bar for six euros each and the alcohol content was zero and the drink itself was just poor.. The Hotel staff overall were very good, personalable, polite and friendly, but just this one aspect put us off both eating and having much to drink or eat at the hotel, this might have been a little OTT of us, but tbf the smallest things on holiday given how short a time a person has, can put a person off - this is more a note for the hotel.. Regardless we'd definitely return and the value was good..

Better than we hoped for

We read all reviews before making our 18 night stay.It exceeded our expectations and we will go again. Yes it has its faults, but nothing is perfect.staff were the best, and its in the perfect place to visit Funchal. All food was excellent, service for restaurants, reception, bars, rooms very good.

Lovely holiday

Myself and my partner recently stayed at the Panoramico hotel for 7 nights, half board. We had a really relaxing stay here - the views overlooking Funchal are fantastic, even when the weather is a bit cloudy, and we thought the hotel was really clean with lovely staff who were always ready to help. There was lots of choice for breakfast and dinner and we thought the food was excellent (in particular, the pancakes, pastries, fruit, and meat). The pool area was great and there were always plenty of sunbeds to choose from! We walked into Funchal and back most days and would agree with other reviews that it is very steep on the way back, but if you are a keen walker then it’s a nice challenge! Funchal itself is beautiful with lots of lovely cafes and restaurants. We would recommend the local excursions as they are a great way to see and learn more about the island. We will definitely be back!
