Last minute trip to visit family. It was a home game football weekend @ UF, so many of the hotels were at capacity when we booked. We like LaQuinta because we travel with pets. This particular hotel charges extra for pets, which we were surprised to learn at checkin. Not a huge increase, but unexpected none the less, and on top of increased rate for football weekend, it was what we considered expensive for a LaQuinta. Overall, the room was clean and comfortable. Due to Covid, we did not partake in the breakfast, as many folks were circulating without masks.
Too expensive. Bad smell

Room had a strong odor of carpet cleaner. I got allergies from it. Also $236 for a one night stay is excessive. Even though I am a Wyndham member I was not recognized or given a rate different from anyone else.

The service staff is not well trained and not very helpful. Breakfast was stopped way too early for a weekend. Staff was not willing to make any effort to address issues Truly wish La Quinta would worry more about good service rather than whether staff is wearing masks or not
A teaching moment

This review is hopefully illustrating the human side of the business. The concept of customer service is not what it once was. The world is a very different place and on those rare occasions in which being is taken care of with human insight and respect is such a special treat to be savored. This is one such moment. I happened to arrive in Gainesville close to 11 Pm after having driven most of the day from Miami. I felt as though I would never leave the state as the trip appeared so much longer than I has anticipated, I was on my way to Texas and this was my first day of travel. I actually arrive at this location first but the price was much higher than the hotel I was originally booked for. The Days Inn was behind the La Quinta and when I arrived I found the atmosphere uninviting and rather unclean. The price may have been lower but the experience was not what I needed after the day I had. So I went back to the La Quinta and luck provided an available room. When I explained what my experience had been when entering the Days Inn the front desk staff remarked that she understood. With that, she preceded to reduce the room to a lower price and I was grateful. In the morning I was prepared to enjoy the complimentary breakfast but when I started to look for it I was told it ended at 9 and the time was actually 10 minutes after 9. When I inquired whether there was a chance to still have breakfast this front desk staff indicated there was no food left. At that moment someone came out of the kitchen and offered selections I would not have chosen to eat and with that, I remarked that do I look as though I would eat those foods. Well, he became upset and so did the front desk staff person who had his back and the whole exchange became heated and contentious. Even though I had apologized no one was hearing that. Eventually, the Manager whose name is Sheila came into the picture and took the situation over. What transpired next was something you would have never expected. She listened to my side in which I explained the whole situation truthfully and as she listened her objective was not to just make me happy but to understand what actually occurred. With that she preceded to provide me with selections I would enjoy eating, reduced the room cost even further, even though I had played a role in the situation by my comments, and handle the situation with class and dignity. I was astonished and extremely impressed. She even was willing to help with a price if needed since that promoted me to stay at another La Quinta that second night of travel. A wonderful experience in a clean safe attentive environment. With a manager, you would hope to find at every stop in your journey.
Hard to sleep

Bright light out the window made it difficult to sleep. Also there were people smoking everywhere outside the hotel, especially the pool area. Bed was fine, bathroom was okay, but if you can’t block out the light, you won’t sleep well. Disappointed.
