Enjoyable place to stay when exploring North Yellowstone
This trip was our second domestic trip during the "COVID-19" year of 2020 and our first to the Yellowstone/Grand Tetons area. We mapped out a "north-to-south" itinerary with an arrival in Bozeman so we wanted to stay near the north side of Yellowstone for our first 3 nights. This Comfort Inn was a good fit for quality, cleanliness, resources, location, and ease-of-access. Our three nights were in the middle of the week, so we never had any parking problems but we could see that the lot might be a bit crowded during peak season. We had a 3rd-floor room on the south side so entering from the south entrance was convenient. From what we observed, the staff looked to be doing a good job of cleaning everything, but we did use hand sanitizer liberally after touch elevator buttons and door handles. Ice was available on the 3rd floor from a dispenser. Self-serve laundry facilities were also available (2 washers and 2 dryers) on the 3rd floor each taking $2 per load. While we brought some quarters, we were happy the the desk staff would make change considering that some places claim that they have a shortage of coins. Our room (#331) seemed a bit larger than expected and had a small counter for food prep including a coffee maker, small microwave, and an under-counter refrigerator. Everything was functioning and was clean. Our personal "anti-coronavirus" process was to buy before arrival disinfectant wipes and spray and paper towels and go over all the "touch" surfaces including thermostats and TV controls. We also bought (at Wal-Mart in Bozeman) some pillowcases that we put over the pillows we put our heads on. We might have been overly-paranoid as our room seemed to be cleaned well, but we tested negative for COVID-19 before we started this trip and tested negative when we got back, so maybe we at least did a few things right. We liked the nice couch in the room and the big Sony TV on a swivel mount that let us watch TV from the table in room or the bed as we desired. The DirecTV system provided worked well and the WiFi was good for uploading entries and photos to our travel blog and keeping up with e-mails from our laptop and our i-Things. We had dual sinks in the room and the hot water was plentiful and the pressure was very good (and we appreciate that!) The breakfast, as many reviewers have said, was a sack breakfast during this pandemic. My wife was not particularly thrilled with the "pre-packaged" hard-boiled egg, but the muffins were generally good and it was adequate for our needs. We didn't get up with the "wolf spotters" at 5 am to be in Lamar Valley before sun-up, but we usually were heading into the park between 6:30 and 7:30 am to catch what wildlife we might see. Actually, the "town elk" like the green, watered grass of the church or park service offices just south of this hotel (or the soccer fields of the school just outside the Roosevelt Arch) so you don't have to go far for your first wildlife pictures. I overheard one guest complaining to the desk staff that a previous occupant of their room had left something in their frig. We didn't have that problem here (although we did stay at a place in Jackson and found someone else's clothes in a drawer). We heard many times in Gardiner and all through Yellowstone and Jackson Hole about labor shortages during the coronavirus pandemic and that staffs were working short-handed. We REALLY appreciate all of the hard work people are doing to keep their businesses going and thank you for a most-pleasant stay! May we all get through this time safely and keep smiling!
Nice hotel
Good hotel, nice clean room. Very helpful and friendly staff. Breakfast was a bagged grab and go due to covid. Breakfast consisted of 2 boiled eggs, cheese stick, juice, and an apple. I would stay here again!
Great Stay a the Comfort Inn, Gardiner
We stayed at the Comfort Inn in Gardiner for 8 days while we were exploring Yellowstone. Super convenient to restaurants, the market and Yellowstone's North entrance (less than 5 minutes away). Rooms were slightly later than average and very clean. Beds were good, rooms were nicely furnished. They have a nice bagged breakfast daily. Be sure to try the Antler Pub & Grill which is right in the hotel. Check in was quick, staff was friendly and helpful. Great water pressure for a nice hot shower. We had a fridge in our room, wifi was ok. Would defintely stay here again.
Perfect if your wanting the Lamar Valley and the north of Yellowstone greater area
We stayed 3 nights, choosing a suite for greater space and comfort. The whole room area was very clean. Firstly this is a suite with full size fridge and microwave & coffee machine, yet provides no plates or silver wear. The air con was very efficient and not too noisy. When we checked in the room was not ready, the poor lady on reception was seriously stressed and having a ongoing conversation with a colleague about poor staffing levels with house keeping (not some thing I want to hear, esp in Covid time - i don't want to think cleanliness has been compromised!) At all other times this same lady was on duty when we were returning and was a delight to deal with when we were picking up replacement coffees etc. As house keeping will not enter to room at all during your stay. Clean towels and bedding will be provided if your request them though. Car parking was very tight, on one occassion we returned after a long long say in the Lamar valley at around 7.30 pm to find there was not a single parking space available and parking was not permitted on / in the available land around the hotel, luckily some one was leaving so we took there bay.... Breakfast was a grab and go bag which if the one we had received in another Comfort Inn on the way up was anything to go by was not a lot to miss, However, these are not available until 6am. If you hotel is on the edge of Yellowstone and people want to be in situ for day break it means leaving 5.30/5.45. No breakfast bags available and coffee not ready. A big disappointment, esp as there is nothing in the park! Cannot even collect them the night before. The bar and restaurant are closed over Friday- sunday nights ( most odd) the middle night of our stay, the pesky staff issues arose again and the food was 'take out' only, but you could at least have a drink at the bar whilst you waited. The lady working the bar was fantastic, very friendly and supper efficient, and when our food was available it was very good, just a burger and fries but tasty and well cooked. For Northern Yellowstone and the area around Gardiner and upto Bozeman, its a good location, walk able to a few places to eat if you wish. and it was an enormous one is in the the grab and go bags that Comfort Inn have thought adequate at this time. The first night we got given 2 x tini tiny size muffins, a crappy kids cheese straw, and a choice of an apple or an orange. The return trip was 1 x muffin, 1 x cheese straw and 1 x tiny yoghurt pot and again a apple or orange. I appreciate in Covid times its different, but the offering in comparison to a full cooked breakfast is a joke, it is not replacement meal they offer. How difficult would it be to package a bacon roll or a egg roll to go at the time you wanted it. Even hot oatmeal and some cereals. I don't want sugar for breakfast.......... if local diners and cafe can be open how come in house dining is still not an option. We had 7 hours or driving ahead of us and real food would have been a better way to start those days...
The perfect location for exploring Yellowstone
Located just outside the north gate, this is a very comfortable hotel. Very clean with a great staff. From the hotel, it is around 6 miles to Mammoth Hot Springs. This is also the best location for wildlife viewing, which is better in the northern part of the park. It is still over 50 miles to Old Faithful, but with Covid, all park hotels are closed. We loved our stay at this property!
