Mixed experience but nonetheless a recommendation
Altogether our 4 nights at this hotel where somewhat decent but the Hotel has its flaws. First of all the positive stuff: the room was pretty good, spacious, balcony with sea view. Breakfast was good but a bit difficult with the Covid situation. Everything was pretty quiet. The pool is nice but small. Staff is very friendly and tries to help. Looking at the rooms facing the street side it definitely pays of upgrading to the better rooms. Now to the less great part. Firstly the beach isn't really great, mostly pebbles and stone but that is not the hotel's fault of course. Wifi isn't working well. AC in our room made a squeaky sound after being on for a while which apparently wasn't possible to fix. Paying 15 euros for two sunbeds and an umbrella on the hotel beach seems really unreasonable if the hotel is less than half booked. The shower makes it near impossible to not flood the room. Still, I'd probably recommend the hotel as in this price class there seem to be few better places on the eastern beaches of Sicily.
Last night here and can say have loved staying here . Staff are welcoming friendly and extremely helpful, especially the young guy on front desk , the waiters and they take the time to get to know you whilst you're staying there and make sure your stay is as person centred as possible. The cleaning ladies are also friendly and do an amazing job. The place is very clean and every little detail is covered, fresh towels , fresh toiletries ect. We only booked breakfast which is typically the same as any hotel apart from the waiters bring over your drinks and learn quickly what you like and ask you each morning if you would like it ?? The hotel is right in the beach and it's so nice to hear the sea at night the waiters will serve you where ever you are be it on the beach round the pool or in your rooms for 7 euros .. be aware as we see some guests where ordering room services or out for the late pizza bar and at the end of the week we're arguing the hotel cost . There is also a 2 euro per day charge city tax that you pay at the end of the week to the hotel Local restaurants are also warm and welcoming and in the door step. Finding cigarettes though is bit harder , you need to go to tobacco shops and lot shut round 1.30/2pm - 4.30 pm . We went for a relaxing holiday and that's just what we got ,😊
OVER RATED AND DIRTY!
Stayed there in November as part of a tour. Actually looking forward to staying there at the end to kind of relax before returning home...booked 2 days post trip. The shame of it was the fact it could have been beautiful but management/owners did nothing and I mean nothing to keep it looking beautiful. We had a large room with an extremely large balcony with standing water. Needless to say everything e we opened a window gnats flew in. The room was filthy-cobwebs, dust on moldings, doors with dirt from numerous hands, lime deposits around the shower, paint bubbling bc there is dampness and the real kicker was a toilet that didn’t work and the bellhop/janitor kept saying it was fine. Finally, got a real plumber? who fixed it temporarily. Left earlier and went to a B&B for the last 2 days. The staff was extremely rude not only to us but to others and their breakfast buffet was unappetizing! Never like doing these reviews but this was a must!
The staff was very attentive, BUT...
We had a dinner in the hotel dining room and the food was not very good. Also this place could have used a make-over 10 years ago. Kinda old and run down. Don't think I would stay there again if given the choice.
Great location. Clean and tidy. Unfortunately well over rated.
Not a good experience for us. Trip Advisor did indicate the warning signs before we arrived but there was evidence of improvement in the reviews. We were on a tour so had little choice. It is now obvious that 'the wool was being pulled'. We have to agree the hotel is an ideal location with potentially good facilities. The food offered was average for a 4* local hotel. The hotel public areas and our guest room were very clean and well serviced by the housemaid. However there was a great deal wrong with this establishment beyond the officious and non-approachable reception staff. Most were officious and not very approachable. E.g. as we checked out and having paid I found a mistake with my extras bill and was informed it was my fault as I had agreed it and they could do nothing about a refund as I had used a credit card. Also in no particular order: *on arrival it took 90 minutes for our bags to get anywhere near our room. In the end I went and got them. * the restaurant opening times were too restrictive for both breakfast and dinner. This meant far too many guests were trying to be served at any one time. On our last day, 19th Oct., the first coffee was not served until 0750. We were leaving at 0815. * one staff member seemed to be on duty all of the time in the dining room we were there, he was friendly and efficient. He was one of few. * there were numerous trip hazards in the lobby and corridors. * there were very limited plug sockets in our room. I.e. I had to unplug a light in order to charge a phone. * the WiFi offered was intermittent and required numerous logins throughout the day.. * the shower head was scaled up and did not flow. The shower door did not close fully which meant leaks. There was rust and scale all around the bottom of the shower glass and fittings. * the bedroom shutters urgently need a service and are noisey. * the bedroom was far too hot even with the door open all day and night. * we asked for a few more hangers but none arrived. * the gilt had rubbed off nearly everything which gave an impression of a run down hotel with little investment. In places they are trying to improve. E.g. new doors and locks on some rooms and WiFi throughout. The above are a few areas of feedback but our main complaint was the lack of approachability of the reception staff. On various days we heard them tell member of our group or us, 'it is hot because there is no air conditioning in October.' 'The air conditioning does not work in rooms.' 'It is not our problem, we will get maintenance to assist when they next available.' There was one member of hotel staff to the right of reception who constantly shouted across at colleagues in the centre of reception even when there were guests there.
