Anniversary weekend stay spoiled by sub standard hotel

Reviewed 22 march, 2023

Where to start. My husband and I decided to go here for a relaxing anniversary weekend. Initially thought things were going to be ok. Checked in and had a trek to our room. Upon asking to be moved due to ill health they agreed and moved us to the bottom floor which was ok. This room wasnt as plush as the first but it was ok. Met family for drinks and dinner which was booked earlier in the day. Upon going into the restaurant we were sat at a table which was in the conservatory, it was absolutely freezing so we asked to be moved. We were sat at a table in the middle of the restaurant which was like being sat on a roundabout but we decided ok lets go with this. Every time a member of staff walked by the draft was unbelievable. Had to ask multiple times just for water. The food was edible but nothing special. Upon trying to return to our room that evening we could not get in so trek back to reception to get the key re-set. Breakfast the first morning, not impressed, bacon was like cardboard and the mushrooms over done like rubber. Eggs benedict at an extra charge came swimming in water on the plate. Went out for a little exploration only to come back and find out we were locked out of our room. Back and forth to reception multiple times and finally got into the room. Into the spa this should help us relax, wow the Eucalyptus was so strong it would have knocked you out. We decided not to eat in the hotel for our second night and headed out. Upon returning decided to have a drink at the bar, wow I have never experienced slower service in my life, waiting approx 20 minutes to be served. Eventually got our drinks and enjoyed & headed back to the room. You guessed it locked out again. By this time its around 1030 in the evening, receptionist suggests that perhaps its the batteries on the door lock causing an issue and goes to search. We asked if there was maintenance who could come and fix the issue only to be told that maintenance dont work on a Sunday! The second room was not to a clean standard with lots of dusk and cracked and broken tiles in the bathroom. Breakfast the second morning was just as bad as the first. This is no way a 4 star hotel. Lucky if I would give it 3

Spa and overnight stay

Reviewed 14 march, 2023

We had a spa voucher for treatments as a gift. We booked an overnight stay to celebrate our anniversary. The spa experience was great and very relaxing. The hotel was welcoming with complimentary cookies on arrival. The room was of a good size, and was very clean. We had dinner booked, my fiancé had the duck confit and he said it was the best he has had. I had fish and chips, which was very filling. We had breakfast as well and couldn’t be faulted. We would definitely stay again.

Never again

Went as a couple for a present that was bought for us for one night with spa treatment so we added an extra night after several emails to reception before we arrived they still had us down for just one night they were absolutely clueless Had an evening meal booked for both nights at 8pm arrived at 7.45 didn't see any food for 45mins ordered a bottle of wine which took 35 mins to turn up Noticed there were quite afew complaints felt sorry for the young lass who was running the restaurant Wasn't much better on the second night either Same drinks at double tree in Edinburgh 6 pound cheaper Come on Hilton if your charging 5* prices I'd expect the service as well Spa was ok must run as a separate business as they knew what they were doing Room was ok comfy beds and know noise On leaving they said we had extra to pay for the last evening meal which we payed on the night showed them on my bank app yet they still took it out when we checked back at home Was a comedy of errors from start to Finnish not what you would expect from the Hilton chain so for that reason we won't be returning here again
