Would happily stay here again

Reviewed 19 september, 2022

Context: Stayed here for work. Someone else chose it. Was checking in moments after hearing the Queen had died so a strange time. Pros: Very comfortable rooms - slept uncommonly well for a hotel. Really good cooked breakfast. Wifi worked fine. Cons: Power sockets awkward to reach. Kettle in room but nowhere good to plug it in. Conclusion: Would happily sleep here again.

Just so terrible- please avoid

Reviewed 19 september, 2022

I’m not really sure where to start with this one. Rarely leave a review, however I feel so compelled to help other couples avoid the terrible mistake we made by staying here. Essentially terrible experience from the moment we arrived to check-in, the actual room, breakfast, communal areas through to check-out, all so unbelievably poor standard, I would struggle to even award a 2 star rating. On check-in/check-out, staff member was rude, completely lost, simply had no idea what they were doing and I can only presume had started the role that morning. Room- tiny room end corridor, over some kind of fan/vent, unbearably stuffy and hot overnight had to sleep with window open (tiny slot only would open) unfortunately making fan/vent noise even louder. Following poor to no sleep really then you encounter ‘breakfast’, I won’t even waste words here- just terrible. Communal spaces- like the rooms, so worn, dirty and generally broken/scuffed in most places. Check-out, although extremely relieved to be leaving hotel- experience again as check-in, same rude staff member, seemed unable to process a straightforward checkout. The west end of Glasgow is such a stunning spot to visit and an area I have lived in and loved for many years and it’s such a shame to think people are paying such insane prices for this standard of hotel completely letting down their whole trip. I’m summary, please I strongly advise just give this hotel a miss and stay anywhere else in the fabulous beautiful westend!

A shadow of its former self

We were very disppointed. First of all, the staff were excellent. Helpful and polite. However, the hotel itself is tired and worn. The breakfast poor. Our room on the corner of the first floor and overlooking one of Glasgow's busiest junctions, both in terms of traffic and nightlife, was not even double-glazed and one of the windows had a large crack in it. We were also woken up in the early hours by doors slamming in the corridor. The breakfast had the bare minimum you'd expect in a 4-star hotel and very little for vegetarians or vegans. No pastries or cerals without additives. If you keep an eye out for offers, you can do much better in Glasgow than the Grosvenor.

Perfectly located hotel

A great location in the West End of Glasgow City. Short walking distance to a good selection of bars and restaurants, plus subway. Hotel room clean and comfortable. Lovely breakfast, welcoming staff. Nice bar with good selection of drinks.

Constant Door Slamming.

Reviewed 12 september, 2022

I was booked in on the second floor of The Grosvenor Hotel for three nights which initially seemed like a good choice. I spent my evenings dining out til late so didn't experience the noise level until the first morning. The doors all have fire-rated automatic closing devices but none of them have hydraulic slow closing mechanisms. This causes the doors to slam shut very loudly. You can imagine that during the hours between 8:00 am and 11:00 am check-out time when staff go through the rooms which do not have the "Do Not Disturb" sign, they have to enter each room several times to prepare the room for the next guest or service the room for current guests. With each room entry and exit (typically 4 times) this means every door is being slammed 8 times! For all three mornings I had to endure literally hundreds of slamming doors. I understand the need for fire-rated door closing devices but I strongly recommend that these devices include a slow final latching stage to greatly reduce the incessant slamming noise. In the interim I would suggest that room service staff open the room door once and leave it held open until the room service duties are complete then manually close the door rather than enter exit multiple times allowing the door to slam shut each and every time.
